Who in BC has Welding skills :D

if you must do it ..it is a job for the tig welder and a pulse machine would be good .... and i would use alum as a heay sink it will help keep the metal distortion (sp) down ....if done right very little filler sould be needed ....

Silver solder is what came to mind first, but a spot welder is what would have been most likely to have been used to put the stamped parts of both mags together in the first place.

Po-boy spot weld, is to drill out a hole in the 'top' part, fill with weld using method of choice, grind if required.
It was taught as a way to graft in tube repairs when fixing aircraft tube structures. Oxy-Acet and TIG were both used. No reason MIG wouldn't, as this isn't exactly a life critical part anyway.

'Course, lap joints with a couple pop rivets would work just fine, too.

Ak mags are steel. Is the mini 14 mag steel as well? (stick a magnet to it)AR mags are aluminum.
Some phosphating will generate heat build up during welding thus blowing holes through the mag.
I usually emerse the mag in some water to control heat input and distortion. Brass and copper plates directly behind the weld zone could help too.
Tig welding is the route go...you can micro wire it as well with mig. I do both depending on whos hogging the equipment.

Holy BTT, Batman!

I believe that the OP, G37 has now sold the Mini-30, so it sort of a moot point.

Also, I was thinking about this after the original burst of posts, and while he asking about welding, what he really wants is a longer handle on a short 5 round mag. A FAR easier way would be to make a mock up mag out of wood and screw it to the base plate of the original mag
