Silver solder is what came to mind first, but a spot welder is what would have been most likely to have been used to put the stamped parts of both mags together in the first place.
Po-boy spot weld, is to drill out a hole in the 'top' part, fill with weld using method of choice, grind if required.
It was taught as a way to graft in tube repairs when fixing aircraft tube structures. Oxy-Acet and TIG were both used. No reason MIG wouldn't, as this isn't exactly a life critical part anyway.
'Course, lap joints with a couple pop rivets would work just fine, too.
