Who is a lefty and shoots a RH bolt?

I am right handed but i had to switch to shooting left due to injury. I found i can't shoot as quick but i am actually more accurate shooting left handed
 
Spend the little extra money and get a LH action, later on if you get more interested in serious shooting you will not have any bad habits to break.
If you buy what you want, you will get over the spent money. If you purchase your 2nd choose, you may always regret it.
Note: God created only so many perfect people, the rest he made right handed.
 
As a LH shooter I used to target shoot small bore. Many thousands of rounds all from a RH bolt. I kinda got used to the RH bolt and losing my aiming position with my right elbow and hand to chamber the next round. I learned a habit of using my right hand to re-chamber. BAD HABIT!
Then I went out and treated myself to a nice new LH bolt hunting rifle. Awesome! Had it for a couple years and got rid of it because I had trouble shooting it. Damn habit kept getting in the way. I'd use my right hand to cycle the bolt and had to turn the gun upside down to do it. Just couldn't shake this stupid way of working the action. Couldn't force myself to use the left hand to cycle the bolt. I bought a lever action instead.
The downside of RH bolt for LH person- 1) your fore hand is a primary sighting position and you lose that between shots. 2) Watch out for the bolt! Your left thumb is still over the pistol grip when you pull the bolt back and on SOME rifles there isn't clearance between the bolt and thumb. I've lost some flesh there a time or two.

SO- if you are new to shooting and haven't learned a bunch of habits about how to work the action. BUY A LEFT HAND BOLT! Or buy a pump or lever. I only choose to NOT use a LH bolt because of a LEARNED process.

PS. It hurts when you slam the bolt into your own thumb and you feel stupid after doing it. I'm not sure which is worse.
 
I'm a lefty and shoot with a right handed bolt action and like it. It would seem awkward to switch, but I do think there could be some credence to the safety issue mentioned of how it might vent if a case ruptured. At least at the range, always were good fitting safety glasses.
 
I am left handed to and used a 303 british for 2 years and shot 2 deer...But i can use my right hand just as fast, I'm ambidextrous as well. If there standing still or walking, ill use my left arm because it feels better and faster, but if there on the run and i needed a quick 1-2-3-4-5d:h::stirthepot2:...I would use my right arm cause the bolt was on that side ;)
 
I always shoot right handed bolt actions. No problems, never worried about positioning of my face. When I was doing biathlon I still shot a right handed rifle. This did lose me some time but it was really insignificant compared to the number of targets I missed! Though, I have been considering buying a left-handed biathlon rifle if I get back to competing.

One potential hazard occurred to a friend of mine when she was shooting a semi auto 22 and an ejected nice hot spent cartridge bounced off her right forearm and ended up down her top – left a mark. Oops forgot to mention she is left handed too.

I am ambidextrous but left eye dominant so I shoot left handed. I don't find most right bolts to be a problem however some stocks designed for right handers bruise my cheek. I have adapted and shot so many right bolts that it actually feels strange to shoulder and work the action of a left bolt. I do tend to favour levers and semi's due to the left handed issue though.
 
Im a lefty and left eye dominant , yeah I can shoot a RH bolt pretty good, but give me a left hand bolt and the accuracy is the same but I can work the action so much faster I dont even realize some times that Ive chambered another cartridge.

No comparison for me .
 
I am left eye dominant and left handed and I would never even consider buying a right handed bolt action rifle-Why? For the extra bit of money, it is worth the investment-I got two a-bolts and they have performed flawlessly for me

Grew up shooting right handed (right eye and right hand dominant) and put 10's of thousand of rounds through my target pellet gun and my dad's 22 and 22mag. Then I lost my sight in my right eye due to an accident. Used the family RH Bolt for years after the accident without issue but as my access to cash went up (wife and I done having kids) I have been buying LH bolts and would never go back. The great thing about LH rifles is you can find some great new and used deals if you know what you want and are patient.
 
Left handed and left eye dominant; I think that if I tried to use a left handed bolt action it would take a bunch of "deprogramming". After learning on, and using nothing but right handed actions they are all that feels natural.
