Who is buying a Type81?

They claim it's not a "chip" but made that way?
Sure looks chipped to me.

I think I'll give it a few months of other people guinea piggin these before I can objectively consider buying one. I almost jumped on the T97 (initial price $1150 CAD, today's price $750CAD AND our dollar dropped 30 cents between those so huge rip there BTW) but it turned out to be a bag of #### so I took a pass.
And that rail is garbage... Can't get the guns made but got mags, wood, and rails ready to go!

They don't have mags or wood ready to go, they have received a set for their FRT sample gun only and the rail is a Chinese Military sample only. I asked specifically about this at the Sportsmens show after reading their update post.

Looks like people are bailing (and trying to bail) out of this pre-order. I guess when it takes years to get something when paid in full, some want to get out of it. Glad I didn't sink cash into this.

people have been bailing since the first time frame passed last summer...as far as I know, no one has had any trouble getting their money back...people are just impatient. Mostly people who just wanted a cool new gun, they obviously don't have their heart set on the type 81 in particular, or they'd stay on the pre-order until either it was announced they weren't coming, or another importer brings them in first.

I ordered mine shortly after the announcement purely out of curiosity. It's been so long that I barely remember paying out the cash and hence don't really miss the money. Judging from the content and length of this thread here, if and when it comes in and I don't like it I'm sure I'll be able to unload it quickly at a small loss (gain?).

GAIN fursure....by the time TI announces they are landed in canada within a day all their stock will be sold out.....this is a super hot item that everyone just wants asap.....all the babies that cancelled their pre order will want back in for a piece of the action which they might not get if they not fast enough.....you will definitely make money on this rifle as I do suspect this could be the first and last batch forever.....I dont buy the BS that NS or CA are gonna get these either

Keyboard commando, tough guy. My feelings are so hurt. Can someone please post a link to the "waaambulance" and "hurt feelings report" for me?

You are most certainly dead wrong. I happily cancelled. NOT going back. I believe somewhere I stated no more pre-orders, and no more TI purchases for this guy. I'll stick by that.

The 81, when I look objectively, offers me nothing, or slightly less. You are reasonably correct with the "everyone just wants asap" train of thought. That is the exact reason I pre-ordered. But there is also a lot of everyone, and a lot of that everyone did not pre-order, so even that wold be incorrect. I see no use for a rifle that realistically has minute to nil advantage, at the price point, to a pile of other x39 options that are available, today. Not just available today, but, when (and if) they need repair, I have parts on hand, and can readily source more. One run of the 81, and then who knows how many years until the next.

Had the big frikkin' "surprise!" (unbeknownst to TI and their partners) of the "rarely" slotted production runs been noted up front; I wouldn't even have bothered on the pre-order. And who knows what other surprises are in store for those of you hanging in there. I question if they (TI) had no clue about that, how much they are really in the dark. The fact alone that they "did not know .......(information)", and like some miracle from the heavens, TI became enlightened as the pressure mounted when people capable of donkey-simple math and reasoning started calling them out yet again, about the impossibility of meeting yet another "proposed" date.

Now, investing my refund, I've managed to get all my x39 rifles fitted to one common 10-round mag. No need for a pile of different mags needed, now. The 81 is not going to fit into that profile. That still left me cash left over, to make easier the purchase of another into the vault of my x51 family of rifles. Also, amazingly, running common 10-round mags. (Yes, I'm a 7.62 fan).

Baby - Fack no! But I am smarter than a rhesus monkey, and for that simple reason alone, there will not be a 81 in my safes. I think this turned out quite well for me actually, in the fact that it made me realize the potential for commonality within the two 7.62 families that I have, and actually have it already put together.

Damn long time before you are ever gonna see your Type 81. I think I stated this also in another thread; that I'm not going to be a whipping boy for the Chinese. You can feel free to fulfill that role, along with the others hanging in there. I'll support retailers and importers that actually give a crap about Canada.

I totally agree. The adversity is where the value lies.
