Who is buying a Type81?

Pre-ordered one in spite of handling one at the Toronto Show earlier this year and walking away less than impressed.

Quality of workmanship was shoddy when compared to the vz.58 - rough machining, sloppy fit and finish, uneven parkerizing (i think that's what it was) and crappy wood fitment and quality (although the sample had some kind of painted wood which we were told was just for the production sample). Quite evident there was VERY little care put into the manufacturing which leads me to believe these are either over-runs (seconds ?) or a special commercial run as the military ones I've seen and handled in my travels (not personally used them however) were sharp looking and well finished.

In short, it's not anywhere near a $1k rifle more like a $500-$700 one at most. But it will sell as there are a dearth of semi-automatic 7.62x39 rifles in Canada that look like the venerable AK.

So why did I order ? Dunno. Maybe hoping that the final versions will be closer to the fit and finish of the (blued) military ones I've seen. Probably going to be disappointed, but oh well, it hard to resist indulging in this hobby :p

Aint that the truth.

Well considering it was in the hands of the rcmp for almost 4 years, yeah I can imagine why it was in the condition it is in.

Some people don't get that it was a prototype. I just can't wait for these to get here :)

Ignore the screen text, no idea what the context is... but you can clearly see these guys got T81's

I ordered as soon as i seen them like someone said, I have spent more and received less far too many times so what the heck!!!! and were not buying from the side of the road if it falls thru for whatever reason I am not worried at all about a refund or even a store credit, they have a few nice rifles that 1000 bucks would secure or get me on my way I just don't know if i should pull the pin on a folder too hahaha

I agree, The rifle shows in that video even not worth 500$, compare with the 200$ brand new military version Chinese SKS.

The blued military one with type 81 bayonet and four 5/30 mags may worth 700$.

the price of type 88 is 3000$ in Canada and 9762 CNY in China. The type 81 is 838 CNY, even the t81 LMG is only 1320 CNY. You do the math.

Some people don't get that the Type 81 is a different rifle entirely. Albeit the same caliber.
.

So tell me why AK 47 wont work in them.? the magazine from an AK 47 is not a prohibited device . I see Calgary shooting center is selling SKS's that take the AK 47 mag

Thats right, they won't. Whats your point? Its not the same gun. Why would you expect the mags to fit?

Why be tied to a rifle that the dealer is the only supplier of magazine's .What happens if the dealer has to wait for this order to sell out before the next order goes in. The manufacture is not going to continue selling magazines with out selling rifles to go with them . Look at Lever Arms K12 Puma shotgun can't get magazines from the manufacturer with out getting shotguns to go with them

Oh FFS people, learn to read and do your research..

The Canadian market type 81's WILL accept AK pattern mags - they just won't operate the bolt hold open.

http://calibremag.ca/norinco-type-81-classified-non-restricted-will-be-available/

the Norinco Type 81 also features a last-shot bolt hold-open feature, and accepts a unique magazine like the VZ.58.
Update: The Canadian contract Type 81’s will accept AK-pattern magazines, but standard AK magazines will not operate the bolt hold-open feature.

I decided to preorder one of these in the folding stock. Only ordered one spare mag. This will be my first "made in china" firearm so hopefully it works as intended and the finish on it is acceptable. I generally do not like stuff made in china as most is junk but some stuff is ok if the factories have a strict QC program. usually name brand products are ok but who knows with this rifle. I figured what the hell and took a chance. worst case is I have a $1000 wall hanger

lmFao in this terrible thread.

NO it will not take AK47 mags, why people are CRYING about the mags it does take is fvcking unbelievable (considering spare mags are 29$ a piece, all metal and have a LBHO on it)
BUT then again it's an sks, without a buttplug on the end of the barrel

Couldn't care less if it doesn't take AK mags. But still will be interesting to see if any do. Just to try them.

But 81 mags are superior, cheaper, and hopefully more readily available. The ak mag possibility is secondary.
