Who is running a slide mounted RDS?

I have a fairly new OR Shadow 2 with RMR. Love it. Mounted the RDS to the plate, fastened to the slide, and it was ready to run.

Expensive but no regrets. After about 1000 rounds with no cleaning, it hasn’t missed a beat. It is clear that I am the limiting factor, and am likely to remain so for the foreseeable future. :)

How was the fitment? I saw a video somewhere that mentioned an issue with screw lengths for either the plate to the gun or the optic to the plate, can’t remember.

When you buy the OR Shadow and an appropriate optics plate it comes with screws for mounting the optic to the plate. You re-use the screws that previously held the sights to the pistol, to mount the base to the pistol. The supplied screws for optics to base were different thread than what Vortex uses to mount their optic to their base, but of course that doesn't matter is its the base that determines the thread and you will be using, so CZ's base and screws. Of course its the right thread, but length and head type could be wrong for your particular optic. The screws for mounting the plate to the pistol are of course the correct ones as they came off the pistol. You may need to buy appropriate screws for the optic to the plate. I used the ones that came with the plate. The length is correct for a Viper, but the head type is wrong. It works fine regardless. I doubt I will bother replacing them.

Has anyone had a P226 milled for an RMR in Canada? I'm not talking about the P226RX, just a regular P226 slide. It seems like there's only 1-2 shops that specifically mention being able to do a 226 and I just wanted to see if anyone had an experience they could relate.

Yeah, I'm like 85% convinced I'll take it to Black Box. Their work looks good and the prices are reasonable. Did your slide have the lightening cut that required a sealing plate?

I highly recommend searching out "Sage Dynamics" on Youtube for thorough (eg. destructive) testing of all of the major MRDS brands and models on the market. The results are about what you would expect, with the RMR reigning supreme in the durability category and the oval window designs faring well to poorly depending on their hood material(s) and thickness.

And yet the DPP was selected and type-classified by the US Army for use with the M17 MHS. I find it difficult to believe that the US Army would buy an unreliable MRDS based on price or domestic sourcing when they could literally pick whatecer worked best for their duty needs. No surprise that USSOCOM went RMR Type 2....

They went with the DDP because of the ability to swap the battery from the top. Having to take off an RMR to change the battery and then have to re-zero tens of thousands of handguns wouldn't be worth the time and effort.
