Who is Using a 28 Gauge, This 2025-26 Hunting Season

Nothing wrong with your gun,doomed28g.It will bag birds out as far , as guns costing much more.:)

Just wondering how you came by your sign on name?
I do like using it more than my Citori in 28. I just really like and shoot SxS better than O/U. Doom's SSG got me loving the side by side so there's my tribute in the name, but I have multiple 28s in the safe :) favourite gauge by far.

I've had three 28's over the years, first one was a Remington 870 but it had ejecting problems so I got rid of it.
Second one was a Mossberg semi auto and my current 28 is a Stevens 555 O/U.
The 28 gauge is my favourite for chickens but never tried it on ducks. There isn't many ducks here in the foothills anyway.

They are like a good looking woman I love the one that I have my arms wrapped around I love them all . I am still looking for a Win 37 steelbuilt single neat guns but hard to find.
Makes sense to me ,warsaw.:)

I have had Winchester Model 370 and 37A 28 gauge shotguns, but never the old Model 37 .Like the Winchester Model 12 in 28 gauge, they are not easy to find and many times when you do,them are fakes.:(

I as well like a SXS over an O/U.

Okay so that explains the name.Thank-you for that.

Yes does often seem that there is no such thing as having one 28 gauge.:)

In the past I used the 28 gauge on ducks a bit. That was when lead was legal.

It seems every 28g I see I buy and I don't ever remember selling one. Thats how much I love that little gauge. A Remington 1100 and 870 Wingmaster, half a dozen Win Mod 12’s (Japanese), another half dozen or so of Browning O/U and a pair of Krieghoffs. The Brownings are by far my favourites, the Model 12s are dainty and a pleasure to shoot. The Krieghoffs look nice but are a club to swing by comparison. None are for sale. lol
….my son has a few 28g shotguns including a still brand new in the box unfired Winchester SxS Model 23. I can touch it but not shoot it, such a tease!!!!

They all get taken out for pigeons, crows, huns and even ducks with factory and reloaded bismuth shot.

In my opinion the 28g is the classiest girl in the world for connoisseurs of fine shotguns, but what do I know…Cheers ….

that would be an awesome gun.Not many using hammer guns any more.any chance of seeing a picture?
Not great pics but……it’s the perfect gun for grouse in cover with its 25 1/2” barrels, IC/full, and tipping the scales at a whopping 4 pounds 5 OZ. OK, IC and MOD would be better but it is beautiful just the way it is IMO

That's a nice looking 28 gauge you have there,L to K.I had a friend, who in the past. had a hammer SXS 28 gauge double, the only one I ever saw face to face.:)

4 pounds 5 oz ,would make it a perfect gun to carry afield.

Mr Bill are the Japanese Model 12 28 gauge guns you have, Grade I or Grade VI?In the past I had a Grade I.
I have 2 stardard grades, LeBarons was blowing them out the door for $750 each. How could you say no… then i have a Ducks Unlimited one (modified choke) and then several of the high grades with fancy wood and gold birds on the receiver. I gifted one to my son with an incredible stock (looked like birds-eye maple) and the little bugger sold it to a very generous guy with deep pockets. He regrets it and Ive almost forgiven him after 15 years. lol

….i knew a gentleman that collected ORIGINAL Model 12’s and I think he had over 30-40 of them…was a tobacco farmer with lots of money, I think he passed away a few years ago….wished I was in his will.
The Browning/Winchester Model 12’s are excellent shotguns. My friend from Virginia just sent me a picture of a high grade 28g at a gun show…asking $3,000USD…

Hey 28g'ers , I've seen some reports and shooting views am
was blown away .

One video was comparing shot dispersion compared to 12g , at some distances
the 28g had better concentration of pellets , I think that it was at 35 yds ?

If I were stil a shot gunner not BR , I would get a W. Model 12 & an High end OU.
.....skwerl

Yes ,those Grade VI Model 12 28 gauge guns are sure beauties .Something like the top grade Ithaca Model 37 28 gauge guns.

I can well believe your son regretting the sale of the gun you gave to him.

Wow, 30 or 40 original 28 gauge Model 12 shotguns.Like you, I wish I was in his will.:)
