I got a complete stock/fore end at a gun show for 10 bucks last year ..... They're not hard to find with all these kids swapping theirs out for the latest and greatest "tacticool" models.

Oh Sh$t!!!

In my quest to make my 870 Police as light as possible for backpacking, I removed the bearing plate! I just purchased Police wood from Numrichs...I better put that plate back in ASAP. G:

in terms of stock, i'd vote for a knoxx or a standard 870 synthetic.

Favorite fore end would be the pachmayr. Haven't seen to many around tho. It's a little bit smaller around and easy on the hands.

Do I still get the half sack for me and Erin to enjoy while you fix your shotgun?? Or do I just show up with the fore end tool enjoy Erins company and watch over your shoulder to make sure you are doing things right??

Kids these days....:p
Sure. Just not this weekend. She's headed for Calgary until Tuesday, and I'm broke until my EI cheques show up again. This f**king layoff BS is really getting to me, and it doesn't seem that there are too many places looking for Class 5 drivers right now.

I don't know about that ... I've come across some pretty stubborn tube nuts. Even the intended tool wouldn't do it with ease.

I wouldn't want anyone to bend their "slide assembly" in the process. You'll note that the rectangle piece of metal is pinned/riveted atop the flat portion of the assembly.

Dont worry bout it. I have the tool here to do it and its not going any where soon. When you decide to switch it let me know. If I am not coming to the city I will mail it to you or if I am in the city I will drop by for a visit and bring it with me...Or if you want it in the mean time shoot me a pm and I will mail it to ya to use...possibilities are endless here...or send me the buttstock and I will build it up with bedding so you can use it in the mean time..or find a used buttstock...or.....I could send it to you and your dad could machine one out for you or...see what I mean...endless...

Ditto in the bearing plate. It looks like a badly fitting stock, and maybe on to tight as well.
Hmmm...when I replaced the factory synthetic stock on my Grizzly with a Remington laminated stock I removed the plate--it did not look like it would fit on the wood stock. Of course I can't find it now  to check for sure, but is it needed for all stocks?

for real?

yes.
at least its what ive used on every single 12ga 870/Grizzly forend ive ever removed. its just wide enough to catch on both slots of the nut, but even if you just catch one side it wedges in the tube and will rotate it easily.

one of these days i will fabricate a forend nut wrench out of a piece of pipe, but the bolt carrier works fine so i havent bothered yet.

all it is is a 0.065" spacer shaped exactly like the end of the stock - you could manufacture your own quite easily if for some reason you cant find one. its sole purpose is to ensure that the flat face of the stock is bearing the recoil and not the edges.
