Who likes the H&R handy rifle?

I suppose this is a fitting place to ask. I'm kind of tempted to try to get something like a Burris Fastfire or other similar small and sleek red dot sight, to put together a very minimalistic Handi Rifle. Aside from the issue of if it can survive the recoil, has anyone ever tried it for feasibility? I know it wouldn't be ideal due to the size of the reticle, but could it theoretically work on a "minute of rabbit at 50 meters" sort of use?

What caliber? The smaller calibers are almost all thick walled heavy barrels wich takes the snap out of the recoil, make it more a push...even cheap red dots can survive up to .243 win. Above you probably need the more expensive class ( eotech or similar). Accuracy...minute of rabbit at 50 m is not a big deal, my old 45/70 has touching holes at 130m, so if your red dot covers 3" at the target at 50 m,all rounds should be in there. However,if it has to be minimalistic, why not go with regular open sights?

Open sights require finding one that comes that way, or finding compatible sights and then someone to smith them on. I'm lazy.

They're out there... not from H&R,tho. Look for NEF ( New England Firearms ), Basically extinct since 2010 but was the same rifle and came standart with open sights...barrels interchangeable with the H&R handi.

I sold my 45/70 handy and a older .243 to fund another project.
Also 45/70 ammo is pricey and sometimes harder to find in my area.

Last time I checked Prophet River (see banner above) sells a nice .243 handy with open sights and camo stock.
That's where I got my new one.

OK............PM me ASAP, when you know of a .270 Win barrel, that's for sale, as I'd really appreciate the help in locating one:)

The barrels "may" be interchangeable but may also require significant fitting...

.243, .308, .45-70, 12 ga slug (2), BP Huntsman...

...i bought 2 complete sets of action replacement parts from brownells years ago just in case

...have done trigger jobs on them all

....308 shoots 1" at 100, got rid of the 243, 45-70 is for 405 grain hunting loads using unique powder...3" with iron sights (and 2 cents per shot)

...for what it is, it sure is handi...

I have one in 20 g. ,it`s my "grouse gun" love that little bugger ,had it for years.

You don`t see them for sale around here that much ,as SIR/Cabelas used to have them in all manner ,as did Wholesale to some extent.

I always wanted to get a few more ,just for fun in several calibers ,but not sure who really sells them ?

Anyone who carries Remington or Marlin products should be able to get them in, they're all owned by the same group of companies. Recently P&D Enterprises has brought in a few, as has Wholesale Sports. Even got one from Tier 1 Armoury earlier in the year, the 300 Blackout version.

What are you carrying Dorian???

A rainbow painted Tavor tricked out in MLP and powerpuff girls stickers with interchangeable barrels in .375 Chattfudd and .257 Bobsled. I is manly. :D

In all honesty though, your HR's are probably the nicest I've ever seen. I just think the action, nomatter what type of wood is strapped to it or nose put on, is fugly. Might be robust as a muthaphucka. Still ugly though. Now if we were talking about #1's or M77's, you and I would probably be in the same cheer sqaud. Next time there's a thread on one of those we can colour co-ordinate our pom-poms and be on the same side, deal?

300 Blackout ,that`s different and very interesting !

Thanks for the info.I also noticed that Prophet River sells them also.

***hoytcanon : I`ve seen your rifles on the EE and here......I like `em plenty !!
