Who makes the best .17 HMR?

Savage are good but look like crap.

Cz are way better in quality/finish ,And are on par with savage for accuracy.

copper and Anchust woulb be the best 22/17hmr rifle around.

Anyone that says savages are ugly should take a look at these. Beautiful rifles man. Did you thread the factory barrels, and are any for sale?

I think most (me included) don't like the look of savages because the bolt is so darn long. Honestly why is it so huge. If they had a shorter action, better bluing, and a nice walnut stock I'm sure they would sell more. In all honesty a cz isnt all that much more Ive seen em for $489

Savage doesn't need to improve their guns to sell more!! They sell lots already. Savage appeals to the "all I care about is accuracy at the cheapest cost" crowd. Reminds me of the late 80's Mustang that appealed to those that could care less about anything but horse power per $. Ford sold millions of them even though they were mostly poor quality. If that's what you like, great but unless you think "best" means "cheapest", it isn't the "best". My Savage rifles were very accurate out of the box but otherwise, I just didn't appreciate the poor workmanship. They have very rough bolts and "2 star" fit & finish". I prefer higher end products for my $$$. I sold the Savages & now have Remington's, Tikka's, Browning's, CZ's. I don't mind paying a bit more for the added quality.

Your right, factory savage are ugly as sin. Hoytcanon on the other hand has used enough lipstick on his pigs to appeal to me

I had a Marlin 917V that was a fantastic shooting gun with a very nice finish. (Wish I never sold that one..) My Savage sitting in the Mako stock is stupid accurate, if the conditions are right, and will shoot a group inside 3/8" at 100 yards with 17 grain Hornady.

I should clarify... I agree with the "8 out of 10" in getting a CZ, "IF" you just want to take it out of the box and go shooting... I own and enjoy a CZ 452 Ultra Lux and 453 Varmint, both are in LR and are my "go to" squirrel rifles... But if you want to play with them, dress them up and take them dancing, the I give "the nod" to Savage...

I have a savage 93R17 TRR and I very much like it. Sub 1" groups at 50 yds, 1" groups at 100 yards. I'm crap beyond that.

Ive had a few dressed up savages (6 rimfire all together)

Those are the 2 I still have pictures of. While the stocks are neat looking they are very heavy

Oh ya I ran some hmr loads over my chrony to see what they actually ran for speeds in the savage(blue one above) they ran just under the 2550 fps (was average 2500-2550). Same loads in the cz run 2600-2680fps. Barrel length on them is darn near the same so I have no idea whats going on there.

savage rimefire with a nice colorfull stock is nothing more than an ugly woman in a nice dress...

A Savage with a bedded stock, barrel and trigger work is a fine shooting gun... There is "nothing prettier" than tight groups... And they look good enough to introduce to your friends... I have proven that many times... I did trigger and barrel work on both my CZ's also... I just didn't mess with the stocks...

For the record, the tightest shooting rimfire I have ever seen in any caliber or platform, was a Marlin 17 HMR thumbhole laminate with heavy stainless barrel... Group after group well inside a dime at 100 yards... And did it in the hands of half a dozen shooters...

those savage pictures look like little kids toys. very ugly. people actually like the colorful stocks? WOW.:puke:
