Who makes the best .45

If cost is not an issue, I would go with a Les Baer hands down. I had a Thunder Ranch Special and I have to say, it is the tightest and most accurate 1911 I have ever shot, as are other Baer's that I have fired. But for the money, it was pretty expensive, I think the Kimber line and Springifeld is the way to go for the $$$$.

While a nice gun, it would not be my first choice out of the STI lineup ;-) Some of those hard-chromed bad boys (Executive anyone ?) look awesome and they are available in more than just the standard 45 calibre which is important for some guys :oops:

That said, you reminded me of the Kimber Raptor (just read the article in Guns & Ammo) and damn if that isn't a sweet looking gun :D

roberti11 is understating.
Met a guy at the range and itroduced him to gunnutz - he let me droool over his Valtro. Solid steel, all the bells & whistles. You could not find a Luger more finely built.
 
I have, and will never part with my Kimber TLE/RL. Extremely accurate, and just firing it you can feel the attention that was paid to it during the manufacture.
Like all guns, your best bet is to try a few and make your decision from that. Some guns just suit some people better than others.

Valtro - If you can find one :( They are getting harder and harder to find at a reasonable price. I guess folks are beginning to realize the "true" value of these pistols.
 
If I was a 'newbie' 1911 .45 shooter I'd get a 'tuned' Norc with a decent set of sites installed via 'Armco' and spend the difference between that and a brand new STI on reloading components. I'd then learn to shoot that 1911 .45 real well with all that ammo... but then that's just me.

No this is the wrong way. You do not make a first class gun by starting with poor quality gun. note also that the Norinco are Mill spec gun and do not have the improvement of the modern 1911 : to name a few, ramped and troated barrel, progressive rifling and the like. There is just too much to do to tighten things up and parts to change that this is not worth the money.

Save you money and buy yorself a nice Springfield or S&W.
 
What do you mean!!! You can send a Norinco to Dark International and Roger can and will make it just as acurate as any wilson or baer. Did I mention to that he can do it for a fraction of the cost of the above mentioned.Some of his work you would never even know it was a Norinco!! I have met quite a few folks in IPSC and Target shooting that use Norincos that have been tricked out and would never use another gun!! Big names in this shooting sport like Kimber Baer and Wilson,along with Valtro and STI are names like Ralph Lauren in the shooting world.After all a shirt is still a shirt,but what is Ralph Lauren made of gold or something? A gun is what you make of it and how well you shoot as a competitor. It is not in a name!! Ive spent tons of money on Paras and Springfields,etc and never found one to shoot for me any better than the other!!
