I call Bull#### on that one... Zeiss or Swarovski aren't gonna use any glass but their own
You are wrong and you owe me an apology  ... it is a well known fact that all of the above are getting thier lenses in the far east

And like ROA says some are getting them put together and the lenses coated in the USA... because that is where the best quality of manufacture for these processes comes from

You'd be surprised...

I think there is only one Euro optics manufacturer that still makes it's own glass. Everyone else gets it form Japan, and why not? It's great glass.

Differnet manufacturers use glass of differnet specs, but most of it is Japanese! :D

Hey Dustin....YOU OWE ME :!:
I'll loan you this graphic to better make your point...

Damn its a shame about Zeiss and Schott and other Euro glass makers.
I mean damn there they are using and selling thier glass to other top makers, and I guess those makers are just tossing it in the trash and buying Japanese glass. Makes good sense.......

Yes Leupold gets its glass offshore, as do some others, but hardly everyone, let alone some of the major companies in Europe.

You guys gotta stop reading the "Chicken-pluckers Monthly Sporting Goods Review" or whatever it is BIGGRED is subscribing to

Dustin....use it wisely

Zeiss makes their own glass and use their own proprietary lens coatings, usually made at the Jenna works. They have since before WW1 :!: The Conquest series are ASSEMBLED in the USA using European made Zeiss glass. Realistically though, the Conquest scopes are no better than Leupold VXIII scopes. Zeiss also sells uncoated glass to other makers all over the world, including some of the Japanese makers  . They do NOT sell coated glass though as the Zeiss multicoating formulas are proprietary.

To really experience Zeiss, buy a Diavari or better.

I also HIGHLY doubt Swarovski is using any Japanese lenses in their scopes given that they have been a premier lens and microscope glass maker for generations.

Some Japanese glass is really nice. The Busnell 4200 series is all Japanese manufacture. It's also the cheapest "really good" scope line I would consider using. I'd place it on a par with Leupie VXII kit.

My mistake- My post shoudl have read that I think there is only one Euro scope maker that makes *everythign* from start to finishin thier own factory. I think it's Swarovski?

In any case, Japanese glass is used in many fine scopes.

There has been quite a few revelations about scope makers in the last few years, not all is as it appears.

Yes you did Todd.

Look guys...I'm sorry, I got pissed and I acted like a #### heel. I'm outta here. Have yourselves a great season, and if we should meet I would hope that we could start over.

Cheers,

Jim

I've to agree with Claven2, Swarovski makes its own glass,so does the subfirm Kahles as well as Zeiss in their Diavari-series and believe me,for a Swarovski you pay a nice sum in Austria too.My Dad works for Steyr-Mannlicher and there are certain deals to be had with Swarovsky,if a familie-member is employed by Steyr -Mannlicher,but even so, Swarovskies and Kahles with Employee pricing are still pricier than Leupold or Burris.Steyr only sells rifle-scope compos using either Swarovsky or Kahles. If you have compared a Swarovsky with an American made scope, looking through it side by side, anyone can see the difference.Swarovsky and Kahles are unbeatable, especially under low light conditions.

Leica? They have got to be up near the top of the list too for optics. Not sure where they get their glass, but the scopes and binos that I've looked through were pretty impressive. Leupold is as far up the list as I'll ever make it though, and for all intents and purposes, I don't think I'll ever be disapointed.

RO :)

Don't let it get to you Glen. None of the bull#### from the exaggerations to the name calling. Its the internet after all.

Cheers.

Leupold is the best quality for your $$ hands down. Maybe not at the very top in quality but for twice as much $$, you won't get twice the quality.

If you are being sincere, then great.

There are alot of great people here, and almost everyone has somethign to contribute. I am sure you do as well.

Clearly, the best way to get a positive reception was NOT to come here and call people liars and poachers. As I have pointed out before, many of us know each other on a personal basis.

Participate, be civil, and it will be returned in kind. Act like a ####tard, and...well, you already know what will happen.
 :D

CGN in't for everyone, but I've found that most people have a positive experience here.

Consider this an olive branch. It's up to you to grasp it. :D

Leica gets their glass from Zeiss, but I think they multi-coat it themselves.
