Who resizes new Brass?

An MTM case with one empty spot is a rather stressful occurrence, I must totally agree.

Not sure why , but it just seems wrong. :)

Train of thought have a wreck again 'Looky..........

I always run them in about 1/2 way down the neck, just to true it up and make sure I have good neck tension. I also always slightly chamfer the inside of the case mouth as they invariably have a slight burr inside and I have crumpled the odd case neck before, seating bullets in new cases, so now I just do enough to stop this from happening. It REALLY burns me when this happens with a case from a brand new lot of 100 and now I have 99, I hate 99 or 98, I like 100. I don't mind having a few extra but I hate having lots of less than 100 or 50........just hate it !!!

Because it throws the entire world slightly out of balance..............well OK maybe not the ENTIRE world but certainly my world, it is a sleep losing situation..........I like to have a couple or 3 spares that I keep in my die box just in case I lose one hunting (God forbid) or 1 or 2 fail from any number of unforeseen circumstances. Usually loose primers........

Thanks BMI, for including me with your experienced gang.
As a point of interest Eagleye and I shot in the same rifle competitions in the 1970s.
Wow, time flies, I guess that is like 40 years ago, Dave!
Bruce

Good grief, it IS 40+ years ago, Bruce!! Yes, I remember well the range in SA.
Attracted a lot of good shooters, too.

I do know that the guy I see in the mirror is not the one I remember from those times, lol.

I would be interested in actually knowing how many lbs of powder you and I have burned over the years.
I'll bet it would be a substantial amount. :)

Must get down there and "shoot" the breeze with you this summer. [pun intended]

Regards, Dave.

Typically; brand-new brass is at minimum spec and doesn't even touch the sides of a typical FL die. You can almost always run a new batch of brass through a FL die without lube simply because you aren't sizing anything but the neck. There won't be a mark on the body, or a stuck case because no body sizing is taking place.

That leaves an interesting situation where even the reloaders that think they are Full length sizing their new brass really aren't. Hair splitting? Probably. It's something to think about if you are just doing it to round out necks for chamfering and aren't in love with wiping lube off cases. I can neck up .300 RUMs into .338 Edges in a FL die without a spec of lube. Ditto for making .35 Whelens.

I always run new brass through an expander mandrel making the necks a exact size... Just my OCD thing.

Same for me. I have only used Lapua brass for my handloads (.308Win) up to this point and have found some dinged case necks, not many but I use a Sinclair expander mandrel on the necks whick iron out the dings on the very few I have found and also gives consistent neck tension right off the bat.

All new brass requires FL resizing, checking for length and chamfering and deburring. None of it is ready to load when BNIB. Even the over priced Lapua.

And yet again we hear from "The one who knows not" .............. I would load Nosler right from the box, but then again I don't use Nosler........

Some new brass is ready to load........

I have had a couple of "overpriced" boxes of lapua that would differ. Neck sizing sure, but FL resizing....you may think you are but in reality, your brass likely isn't even making contact.

Before starting this thread I did an internet search and a number of the shooting/reloading discussion forums came up with hits and to my surprise it was about a 50-50 split whether reloaders were doing anything at all to the new brass they bought. This is a good thread and I've learned a few things. thanks guys.
