Who sells or imports Desert Tech

Hi,
wondering if anyone has bought a Desert Tech?
I have been thinking about buying a DTA_SRS
curios about dealers and general info about their rifles
Thanks,Carny
Blue line I believe is the new distributor.

I also have seen them for sale at dlask arms and Corlanes in BC

As you can see I was very into getting one tell our money took a dive, but at that price it makes a guy think of other options. My friends AI AT is a amazing rifle and for a price of around $4600 I think you are getting better value for your dollar IMO.
where do you find that pricing?

An AI rifle in 338 is an AX and you can find them online for $6-6500 USD. The Desert Tech SRS A-1 in 338 lapua is between $5-5500 USD from that same online retailer.

With both the Desert Tech SRS and HTI platforms being multi caliber with the swap parts being available. It is like having a car you can swap engines on in just a couple minutes. If your wife wants to use it to go to the store, In a matter of minutes you can slap a 4cyl engine in for economy and then later that evening swap it back out for the V8 in just a couple minutes and go race at the drag strip.

If I had the extra $7k+ kicking around collecting dust I sure would like to give this platform a try, but my questions is this:

At over $7,000, how better is it over a $3,500 rig? Or over a $4,500 custom rig? Or $5,500 custom rig?

What is it that you get for that $7,000 that you do not get from another rifle platform, be it a COTS rifle or a custom build rig?

- Better accuracy
- Better precision
- Both the above
- Higher build quality
- Higher quality components (action, barrel, trigger, stock)

Or is it just as good as a $4,500 GA Precision/Surgeon/PGW & the likes, but you're paying $2,500 for the stock configuration?
"rigs" Are we talking about semi trucks or rifles?

Custom rifles have a very low resale value and that is why I will no longer go that route or suggest anyone to do so unless they are going to keep it forever.

You mention PGW at $4500, when did they start selling the timberwolf at such a low price?

Retail on a bare TRG 42 is just over $5000 at all my local retailers as well and it really is the cheapest factory rifle in 338 lapua I would consider for myself.

The multi caliber ability of the desert tech rifles is another big plus nobody else has, If you want a bullpup to have mobility with your rifle there is always the DSR but if you think the SRS is expensive you would never consider it

Wolverine sells the AI AT starting at about $4,700 iirc and they go up from there depending on options, mine was about $5,300. Btw, the AT rifles are awesome fantastic rifles! .... especially at this price point.

That is a 308, the Desert tech SRS is available in 338 lapua. Hardly a fair comparision.

I'd take a TRG 22 which is $4000 over the AI AT all day long.

That would be called an "expression", a "slang", a "term used"?

I didn't think there was a protocol to follow and will therefor refer them as rifles only

Re PGW - Where did I mention that I was referring to the Timberwolf?

What I asking for were facts/reasons to justify the cost of this rifle (see what I did there ;)). Some good points where made, which I've already noted in a previous post, but the rest I see as perks that don't really add thousands of dollars to the final product cost.

And perhaps in the end I am simply cheaper than some :)

Why would you say it's not a fair comparison? If your looking for a short action that's the price.

The TRG'S are a good rifle but I wouldn't get another myself or over a AI.

Desert tech SRS is available in 338, I thought we were comparing similar platforms (caliber rifles)not apples to watermelons.

the srs is available as a 338 so you would need to compare other 338 platforms to be fair as any rifle available for that caliber costs more to produce, the AT is not.

There are much cheaper rifles in a 308 platform than the AT, if you are only after a short action the AT is overpriced by the name brand IMO

Well I can understand if your looking for a .338 the cards would be different but if all your looking for is a short action get ready to pony up close to 7.6-8k after taxes. Nice rifle but price is little much at this time.

It is not the rifle for you if all you never intend on buying anything larger than a short action and are fine with the bulkiness, length and weight of a conventional rifle. The ability to switch calibers from short to the large 338 Lapua without having to buy two rifles which would cost much more in the long run is a bonus.

The price you are quoting is what A Desert tech HTI cost before our dollar took a dive so you may be a little high on your quote or the retailer you are buying from is working with different margins.

The AI AT and Desert Tech price very close if you want to compare in USD. I also see the SRS is available in LH now

Sorry to tell you Brian, but you are the one who's bringing the 338, I never did.

The pricing per DTA's website for the multiple caliber offering is as follows:

Price w/ Conversion Kit

.308 Win: $4,995.00 - $5,195.00
.260 Rem: $4,995.00 - $5,195.00
6.5 Creedmoor: $4,995.00 - $5,195.00
6.5x47mm: $4,995.00 - $5,195.00
.300 Win: $5,195.00 - $5,395.00
7mm WSM: $5,195.00 - $5,395.00
.338 LM: $5,345.00 - $5,3545.00

$5,195 for the .308 and $5,345 for the 338LM

That comes out to a whooping $150 difference, not $1,500, so I hardly see the validity of your apples to watermelons comment :)

The better than .5 MOA with factory (match) ammo is a solid accomplishment for a stock rifle, but is it better than all of them? I think not.

The portability features can also come in handy in certain circumstances; a folding stock could be a compromise, but maybe not as easy to transport.

What I don't see as actual Pro's in support of the $7,000 is:
- barrel removal for cleaning. In such a simple platform as bolt-action rifles, this can't be a "Pro's" in order to support the asking price.
- Military grade materials? What are differences between the material used in these rifles Vs the other big names out there?

What I'm getting from your post is that there's alot of personal opinion/feelings of a buyer (i.e. "only the person buying it can decide", "depends how you look at it", "depends what you want") attached to it rather than solid fact-based reasoning why it does indeed cost $7,000+

I have played with customized rifles. I have a 28" barrelled Krieger with a light trigger. I do hunt with it but it is not my favourite. My favourite is my gunsite scout. Not the best for long range but very handy. So if a desert tech can shoot long range and still be compact then I am quite happy to look into it. I can run a little longer than the gsr's barrel but not as long as my 28". Keep velocity and not cumbersome. Buy it once, cry a good hard cry once and be done with it. The conversion kits look great too. Only buy one piece of glass.

There is no 'receiver' so no need to bed. they are,as far as I can tell, the only bullpup that I could shoot smaller cheaper cartridges (.308) and shoot 300 or 338 from one rifle. So, I guess they have the market by the sack

I was talking about the price difference on the other side of the coin, an AI AT as posted by someone else is not available in 338, you need to go to an AX model which is much more money than the Desert Tech.

I posted US pricing for both the rifles he was comparing and claiming the desert tech was almost $3000 more in canadian dollars which is impossible when looking at the US pricing for both, the Desert tech is actually cheaper than a comparable model of the AI AT rifle in USD.

What PGW rifle were you quoting for $4500? I'm actually curious as I have looked at their rifles but found DTA/desert tech to be cheaper in what I wanted at the time

I agree with you. There is no advantage or reason to buy an ai over a custom rig. I'd rather get a good action and hang a heavy barrel off it, even with an ai stock. The only thing ai does is have some fluting so their bolts won't freeze up in extreme cold. They are not a bullpup that dramatically shortens (make handy) a long range rig.

And if I am not on the same page as you I've been shooting all day so I'm kinda spent. And I'm on holidays so I am not able to drive, if you get my drift.

Actually the AI AXMC would be the close to the same price in canada, they go for $7600.

Also your posting comparing in USD prices, that doesn't work for us here. Try getting quotes from dealers in canada for the DT then compare them. For the AI AT I just seen one on wolverine going for $4600 a week ago.

Correct, there are much cheaper short action rifles lol:)... However AI rifles have a quick change barrel system, they have been adopted by over 50 countries and you get great customer service and accesss to parts and accessories via Wolverine.
