Who sh$t on my canvas tarp at camp?

I found this at camp yesterday ….. and there are no bears in my area …. there have been no signs at all the last 15 years.

So who is the culprit?

I don't know where you live(Province), but I've got Alberta grizzly #### in my hunting area that looks almost exactly like that.

Depending where you are it could also be grizzly (or black bear) ####.

The black bears up here eat a lot of wild type fruit, mostly blueberries though, and their scat never looks like that. It always looks like a big pudding pie tinted the colour of whatever they were eating. Sorta like if you drank 12 tallboys of the cheapest beer you could find, and ate a gallon of blueberries and shatted in the woods. There would be no turds to speak of, just a large semi solid surprise.

Just to pile on, when I dealt with our raccoon infestation last year, I saw all kinds of raccoon scat, and that looks just like it to me, right up to the berries.
I had one jerk of a raccoon - I had seen him scouting about, so I had the trap set, but he wouldn't take the bait. Then I had to go away for a few days, so I removed the trap. When I got home, there right on the scrap of plywood I normally sat the trap on, what did I find? A big pile of coon scat looked just like the OP! That sneaky bugger was just mocking me!

Well, to confirm it is Grizzlr beaaar scatt, check to see if it smells like pepper or have little silver or brass bells mixed in...
On a more serious note to pet owners ensure your pets are up to date with their shots such as parvovirus...a buddy had his litter of Malinois shepherd (6) pups and an $8k vet bill for all of them after contracting it.
