who shoots thompson center encore/contender shooters

I have a prohunter and have usually short barrels for the frame to keep the length down so it is compact. 375HH -18.5", 45-70 -15", 22hornet - 16" and a 30-06 -24". I really like it for quading into places to hunt(camp) where it can be stored safely and not be banged around.

I have an Encore in 15 inch and 24 inch .223 rem, 15 inch .308, and 19 inch 6.5 Bullberry. Also walnut, synthetic and folding stock, Belm trigger mod and pin.

Just got a Pro-Hunter two weeks ago in .223 Rem and grabbed a .243 Win barrel the same week off EE. I haven't had a chance to try it out yet. I have a bunch of bolt action so I figured it would be something new to try.

I shoot 338 Federal and 7mm-08. Loads run over chrono give +100 fps over book for the 338 and +140 fps for the 7mm both in 28" tubes.

I have been into the Contender's for over 16 years now bought the first one in 30-30 for my 10 year old son to hunt with.

Here is my list...

2 stainless steel Contender frames/trigger group

8 carbine barrels

16.5" 22LR s/s tapered
23" 204 Ruger blued bull
21" 223 s/s tapered

21" 308Bellm s/s tapered was the 30-30 barrel but had Mike Bellm rechamber it 150gr = 2620fps
21" 375JDJ s/s tapered was a 375Win had it rechambered
18" 10mm blued tapered
14" 45 Colt s/s bull
22" 45-70 s/s bull

and as of yesterday a s/s 50 cal muzzleloader carbine barrel

and hopefully this week a 21" s/s 410 shotgun barrel

I'm looking for one more barrel = 21" 6.8 SPC s/s tapered to fill the gap between the 223 & 308Bellm...

:D

I used to own a normal blued Encore with .223 and 209x50 barrels. I then upgraded to a Pro Hunter with 30-06 and 209x50 barrels. I changed the 209x50 to a 25ACPx50. It works well. Ignition and accuracy seemed to have improved. As well as cleaning.

I dropped the 30-06 in favor of my preferred .308 in 24". In addition to that I added a 15" .22lr, and 28" 375 H&H.

I'm still looking for a 45/410.

I couldn't be happier with the results of the gun. The accuracy of all the barrels that I've owned have been better than expected. Most are MOA. Other than the short .22lr. And that's because it has iron sights and I haven't shot it further 20 meters. I've never had a misfire, jammed case, or any other problem. I've thought about putting a lockable hinge pin on it but I haven't had a need to. My pin stays where it needs to and accuracy hasn't been a problem.

One thing that attracted me to the Encore/Pro Hunter is that the frame is so versatile. You have the option of almost any caliber you can think of. Any barrel length (depending on if you want to keep it non-restricted). And there are a lot of different stock choices.

Its a .338 Federal with a 19" barrel, fake brake, Leupold Scout scope, Leupold rings, with Fire sights for back ups. Compared with a 10/22.
