Who uses the FN P90

Just looking to pick your brains. My Question is which Police Dept in Canada uses the FN P90 if any.

Thx

Halifax has taken them out of service and if not already done, so is Montreal after a coroners inquest found them not suitable.

No one can confirm if the JTF used them, or just bought some for evaluation.

These departments have all seen the tests and published results that show that they are barely lethal:

Hayes C: “Personal Defense Weapons—Answer in Search of a Question”, Wound Ballistic Review. 5(1):30-36; Spring 2001.
Roberts, G “Preliminary Evaluation of the Terminal Performance of the 5.7 x 28 mm 23 Grain FMJ Bullet Fired by the New FN P-90 , Using 10% Ordnance Gelatin as a Tissue Simulant”, AFTE Journal. 30(2):326-329, Spring 1998.

If they didn't cost as much as my first car, they would make great gopher shooters.

This is a ballistics video of the SS197 (Blue tip stuff that is canadian legal for us) fired out of a Five-seveN pistol.

Note that firing this cartridge fired from the P90 instead of the Five-seveN bumps the velocity up to 2350fps, even with the short carbine barrel, not even the 16" PS90 barrel or the 18.5" canadian PS90 barrel.

I sure as f**k would not want to get hit by this calibre... it may only be a supercharged .22 magnum, and is definetly not as impressive as some other PDW and rifle calibres, but the whole concept of the gun if used as intended is to fire ALOT of these cartridges out of a 50 round magazine very quickly and accurately, so most times the victim would not be hit by a sole shot.

They're pretty much crap without the fun switch, but I'd love someone to make a rimfire version - 22 mag, 17, or even 22LR

I always love when the internet commandos come out with their canned M4carbine.net opinions on how the 5.7x28 mm round is barely as strong as a .22 magnum and not lethal enough for duty.

You can tell that to the victims of the Fort Hood incident which were shot by a Five-seveN pistol using the anemic blue-tipped civilian ammo.

The fact is, the 5.7 round is exactly what it was designed to be: a light, compact, high velocity, low recoil, soft armor piercing, 9mm Para equivalent. It's a great subgun cartridge (except for the cost). Comparing it to intermediate rifle cartridges is just retarded...

The CF had five P90s about five years ago, if they bought more or retired them between then and now, or who the end users are/where is for others to answer.
