Whats so "ho-hum" about the 30-06??????
Well, the 30-06 is like white bread.
Everyone buys it and it does the job just fine but it wasn't the primary service cartridge for Oz, or for Canada for that matter, and I have no romantic feelings toward it whatsoever.
In fact 30 cals in general make me yawn.
It's a US imperative that 30 cal was better than anything else and it's the reason why we have 30-30 and 308 and 30-06 and 300 Win Mag and 300WSM.
If Germany had been more successful it could well have been 8mm and if the UK had been less limp wristed about arms development it could've been 303.
So there ya go.
In fact I think 303 will do the same job just as well any day of the week using up to 15k psi less in chamber pressure and up to 15gr less of powder.
That's why the Enfield is a less sophisticated rifle.....because it doesn't need to be.

Hello Kombi 1976, what kind of scope base is that on your 303/25? It does not look like one I've ever seen? I guess it's your Kangaroo gun? Anyone for a Kangaroo defence thread?
Damn right it's my roo rifle!

I could say that the roos don't like it but that would be inaccurate......
They never know what hit them!!
The scope base is a Lynx scope base that uses Hillver rings.
Lynx are a Sth African mob but I think their kit is made in Japan.
Damn nice stuff though.
I would really love one of their 3P 1.25-4.5x26D scope for a big game rifle.
