Who will get the first gopher of 2009?

No gophers around here :(, it sure looks like it would be a lot of fun. We have ground hogs around here, I haven't seen many around my area though. Anybody out there from eastern ontario have a honeyhole for ground hogs?

How about this one. Called shot by my friend at 70 yards with his scoped Norc M305. Bullet is a handloaded FMJ (can't remember weight). He told me he was going to put it in his mouth at the moment he opened it to squeak... and he did!

I can say when I was alot younger )10 years ago, I would see lots of Groundhogs when I went out walking in the woods. Now, hardly ever see them. My hypothesis is that the increasing coyote popln is cleaning them out.

Got 5 yesterday, out on the snow. 2 headshots , while they poked out of their hole, dropped back down. Two more did a couple flips (223 with 45grain hp). Didn't have a camera and wasn't worth going back to get a picture

Cheers

Two more today. Mixed results with 223 and the 45 grain hp (whitebox). One drove him ahead about 6 inchs and he managed to fall down his hole in the snow - left a fair bit of blood.

Second did the flip in the air trick with a rd mist.

Its all good

Alredy shot a Gopher

I have already shot a gopher this spring. i live in South west saskatchewan and the odd one seems to be popin up out of the ground alredy but it has bin startin to warm up latly so there should be more commin out soon.

I can wait another couple of months:) I've got a field i go to near my home town. it's just a couple acres but it's infested. thousands of the little buggers. especially when i wait till after the babies come up:) I sure hope i get my 223 and my 6.5x55 built by then.

Near P.A. where I live we won't be able to shoot them till probably April that way the winter is going. Mind you there hasn't been too much snow this year so it might be earlier than usual. We have had a few wet years in a row and that always puts the population down quite a bit. It's hard to find a good crop of targets.
