Who will get the first gopher of 2009?

On a whim, I went to the gopher field that Huntsman and I haunt. They snowphers were everywhere! Almost to easy, they stood out like little black bowling pins on the snow. The Lakefield Mk I 22 LR w/ Burris Fullfield II wrought havoc today!!! I was easily into the double digits.

Me an my boy shot gophers this morning until we ran out of ammo (only took 1 brick with us). It was great. A pair of pure white weasels were out gathering up the dead gophers as fast as they could, it was cute as hell, they weren't concerned about us at all. They should have a good stockpile for a few weeks. We were SW of Swift Current SK.

No gophers yet, but I got two pigeons and two skunks when I went for a little drive. Good vid sealhunter.

This is absolutely killing me

I was hoping to be able to go shoot some in a week or so but doesn't look like mother nature is going to cooperate.

Anyone with help locating a spot within a 10 hour drive of Peace River, pm me. I used to shoot about an hour south of Youngstown with a friend but he has moved. I need to find a spot for me and the father in law to go without spending a few days searching. He is only here for a few days.

Any help would be appreciated.

Greg

Dad said the he seen the first gopher up on our patch out on the farm. That's west of Red Deer, so areas to the south should be seeing them come up right now...

Me and the little guy went out this afternoon (camera batteries were good lol), took the BRNO #5 and prob whacked 75-80 gophers....tried calling in a coyote but he wasnt hungry for Rabbit :D

Got two more this afternoon, but the snow makes it hard to get within .22 range and I don't want to lie down in the snow to shoot my .223 yet. C'mon SPRING ALREADY! MELT DAMN SNOW!

tell me about it! marched through 3-4 kms of ankle to knee deep snow!

I wore snow pants and just sat in the snow...

I finally got out today with a buddy of mine and shot about 50 between the two of us. I found out that my Sako Quad is a nice rifle to carry and pretty accurate. I forgot how much fun gopher shooting could be. I used some American Eagle HP that I had 'penned' and they seemed to open the squeeks up a lot better than the Federal bulk pack that my buddy was using. Here's a pic of the 'pen trick' that I had done to some AE22 and Power Points for comparison.
