Wholesale Calgary... painful

True enough, but when it takes you 20 to 30 minutes before they even aknowledge your presence while they all BS with the guy on the other end, well, maybe they need to give more before they get anything. Especially my time.

Yeah, and when you leave the BS guy is you. Everyone has an opinion and everyone is the same buddy.

Don't flatter yourself bud. I don't have the habit of standing at the gun counter in Calgary and listening to the crowd brag or cridicize. I always just wanted what wa on my list or to take a look at somthing. More often then not if I went thre to look at somthing on the wall, it followed me home. I've got better things to do than to listen about 600 yard running shots or why what I'm looking at isn't what I really want.

Fix the problem

1) Upgrade inventory system. They lost 50 handguns to theft and didn't know it until the cops found one on a criminal. Make it so the counter guy can find what's in stock and what's not and where to find it. Everyone has phoned before, had an item confirmed on the computer as being in stock, only to wait 20 minutes to discover it cannot be found when he gets to the store.

2) Separate counter for ammunition. Why must a guy wanting to buy a couple boxes of .45 ACP have to wait 20 minutes behind a guy who wants to try out every rifle in the store? A junior high kid can find and hand a person a box of ammo. No need for specialized knowledge or spending a lot of time on the transaction.

3) Have handguns in the display case at the front counter labeled and priced. They would sell three times as many, if people could see what they have. Just ask TSE.

4) Update website with accurate "number of items available" information for major items. Everyone has looked on the site, found something they want and been disappointed to find the item out of stock. When you look at Questar's site for example, you see "stock: 4" and know they have 4 of the items available. This is also a great sales tool as it encourages people to buy the item before its gone.

I don't get this store... went into the winnipeg store today to pick up some shot shells, and see if they had a sako finnlight in 7-08... guy behind the counter was very helpful and friendly. He checks the system, they have 3 in a store in b.c. I asked how long it would take to transfer one in. He says 6 weeks. I said 6 weeks????? He said it would be transferred to the calgary store when they had enough stock to ship to the calgary store, then sent to winnipeg when calgary had enough stock to ship to winnipeg. I'm talking about an 1800.00 gun, and they won't rush it to a store to sell? I'm very confused.......

My only comment is- If you go somewhere where you think that boneheads are, and youre the guy asking them questions - What does that make you???? I have shopped there plenty and enjoyed the prices as such- Ive had only good experiences with staff, but admit the numbered waiting is pretty awful..... With that being said- sales people are never experts in their fields, so dont expect it of them..... I am a certified automotive technician and I couldnt imagine a car salesman trying to answer complicated mechanical questions.... The sales staff will do a fine job Im sure- if youre responsible enough to do youre homework and go in knowing what you want..... Later.

I have not had issues at the counter. I have found wait times to be reasonable. I do think that the new WSS website is terrible.

This kind of BS got worse when UFA took over. Not only can the poor d1ckwad behind the counter order your rifle from another store and get it in a timely fashion he can't even call them to see if they actually have it.

I used to work at WSS Calgary.

And let me tell you, customers suck.

Really.

Look at it this way:

Some customer comes in and all he is concerned with is long range precision shooting. If you don't know anything about it, but offer some well meaning suggestions...

There is a post on CGN the next day about what a retard you are. (And thanks for not posting that by the way Colin :))

Some customer comes in and all he is concerned about is shooting handguns. If you are working behind the counter and have spent the last decade shooting four and a half million rounds of shotshells at clays but can't strip a Glock...

There is a post on CGN the next day about what a retard you are.

Some customer comes in and he is a fool who decides to mount his own scope and then ask you why he can't sight it in properly...

There is a post on CGN the next day about what a retard you are.

Now I don't know Ardent personally and have never met him. But, having had words with him here on CGN, I suspect I would be less than enthused having to deal with him face to face. We don't hit it off online and I don't think we would in person.

There are two sides to every story. The reality is, and I know this from having been on both sides of the fence, you get what you give. And if you get poor service, well... consider what your own demeanor was.

Aside from that, the shooting sports is a very large field. Just because the guy behind the counter is not interested in what you are interested in does not mean that he/she doesn't know anything about firearms or shooting. Because I guarantee that for every one story a gun store customer has about the staff, the staff has ten about customers.

And consider this: Most of the people working behind the gun counter don't have that as their primary employment. They do it because they like it. For clowns to condescend to them as "clerks" who "can't do anything but retail for $12 an hour" is offensive. If you take that attitude, I can pretty much assure you that you will not receive the best service.

Hey, like I said, I have been on both sides of that counter. And I do believe that most of the people behind it are suffering from some sort of retardation. The majority of the tools are only there to hear themselves tell their "5 minutes of glory" story to anyone that will listen, and the story usually isn't really theirs. I have had to cringe at more statements from people behind WSS gun counter than any other establishment. Sure a lot of customers sucked. The gun crowd attracts all the same 'tards that the gun business did. But on the whole that goes for any business. I just want to be able to walk up to the counter and ask for a .338 expander ball and pin kit from RCBS and not have the guy go "uhhh, I think we don't have those...", only because he doesn't know sh&t. Cause I will go to one of the actual shooters that work there (few and far between) and they will find it in a second. Most of the time I ask for match primers in that place the newest numpty comes back with the small rifle version of the large rifle primer I just asked for.
Don't excuse the absolute garbage WSS calls customer service by blaming it on the customer. That is management and the employee's fault for hiring and being a bunch of goofs.

Retail is not skilled labor - hence $12/hour. You can't live in on $12; high turnover. Regardless, WSS entertains millions of seamless transactions annuall. Box store employees have no vested interest in the success or failure of the chain (well, other than every two weeks).

IMHO it should be treated as such, and trained and paid accordingly.
As it is a skill set, and IMHO a trade unto it's own at the vary least.

Take for example another service industry...Being a waiter in Europe.
Some spend years apprenticing and only bringing water to the table and what we call hosting here in North America.

Well, it's true that some guys - and lately gals - shouldn't be behind the counter. But I can tell you straight that when I worked the counter at WSS there were no "goofs". There was not one of them that was not a shooting enthusiast of some kind.

The customer service issue... Well, that is a management issue. But it's a tough one to wrangle and management has been trying to deal with it for years. Really. They don't like to loose any customers. They want your money and they want you to buy their product. But with the population that Alberta has over the last few years and the job market being what it is... good fu**ing luck.

Even with the recession - such as it is - meh.

Sure thing buddy, you just have the habit of coming here to brag yourself up. Yep, I'll take your word for it that you are much less verbose at the guncounter, feedlot, etc...

Yep, you are a real recluse.

That is why a bottle of water costs eight euros.

You are a dumass.

I worked there in 2000, and then most where goofs. It's even worse now. I have a few good friends there still, and they are disgruntled. I don't care if you only do IDPA, if you are behind the gun counter you need to have a basic understanding of guns, reloading, components, or at least have the basic common sense to say the very hard words "I don't know" instead of trying to bullsh^t me into believing they know better.

And we wonder why WSS Calgary has such a wonderful reputation. With talent like this guy, it's no wonder why their so popular with the masses. Sorry, next time you want to brag about your 600 yard running shot, I'll listen intently before I tell you to #### off.

If you cannot reply without a personal insult then I suggest you find somewhere else to go.

Oh, wah wah.

Calum, I can reply without making an overt personal insult. I can couch my words in careful phrases and imply that you are an unmanly man in many ways. And I can go around and around the rules of the forum doing so

I find that dishonest and would rather call you a dumass to your face, so to speak. Dumass.

Oh - and if you can't take a little heat, get out of the kitchen, sissy.

Well, I don't work for WSS any more, sorry your Sylvan Learning class didn't include reading comprehension. So let me put it another way:

I don't work for WSS anymore, but I still think you are an idiot and you haven't done anything to change my mind.
