Wholesale Calgary... painful

I find it strange that I always get good service at Russells and not at WSS.....but.....WSS owns Russells  .....funny how that works.....I really hope the WSS BOSS people are reading this :welcome:
I have shopped at WSS since I was 13 and I am now 26,they use to be my favorite store but NOT anymore.....
I was in Bass Pro and what I noticed is that they are more geared for fishing then hunting

Cabela's will be in Alberta in the near future and I hope they will have better service.

Tried WSS mail order. Worst experience ever!
Ordered dies for 303 british and a primer pocket cleaner. Website listed the items as in stock.
After 3 emails and being told they were backed up 3-4 days, then being told it would ship on a certian day and then being told they were 4 days behind again. I cancelled the order after 12 days.
I ordered the exact same stuff from Cabelas/SIR had it in my hands in 3 days exactly.
I did a little investigating. I tried to find an item that wss lists as out of stock. I find it interesting that absolutly every item I selected from the WSS website is listed as in "in stock". Not even Cabelas usa site does this. I think they use the "Backed up 3-4 days as an excuse to stall while they try to get the item in from suppliers. Needless to say I am not very impressed.

online vs. store

That is true, I find that I can never get items that are on the WSS website when I go the the Edmonton store. Always call first!

:agree:Since UFA took over a bad situation has got worse. I was in the Cgy store a few weeks ago to wait 15 minutes to see if they had the primers I needed, which the computer said they had but they couldn't find. Went to Russels, got what I needed and was in and out in 2 minutes.

The interesting thing about that is that Wholesale Sports bought out Russells.

I've always had good experience with Wholesale Sports mailorder.

That includes, parts, reloading tools & components, firearms, & misc stuff.

NAA.

Anybody got some cheese to go with all the whine? I suggest the whiners get together and open up a store in competition.

The United Farmers of Alberta should go back to doing what they do best - selling barbed wire and bolts to the farming community.

WSS service sucked the sweat off a gorilla's ass WELL before UFA purchased them.....I get better service purchasing ammunition and reloading supplies at my UFA then I have ever had at WSS....

I'm not sure how is best to fix the issues at WSS sports....maybe make sure the employee does not have velcro shoes on and wears a hockey helmet would be a start....

X2. WSS isn't perfect. But they are doing something right or they wouldn't be expanding steadily for the last several years, even entering the US market now. If they were 1/10th as bad as has been said here, WSS would have been defunct years ago.

good grief is this still going on?

Bottom line is that good/service bad /service can happen anyywhere in any situation.

-restaurants
-gas stations
-govt offices ie ICBC, etc
-emergency at the hospital
-workers comp

on and on..... and the common thread is that PEOPLE are involved every time.
WE are the ones that make it good or bad.

Plus we all have good days and bad days (on either side of the counter!)
So cut some slack, everybody! Chill!

I emailed both WSS and their competition in Calgary to ask as to availability and price for a Ruger compact. Ru els replied, WSS did not I bought from my rifle from Ru els and didn't bother further with WSS.

Had great service at the WSS in Nanaimo last week..

A fellow recognized me from the huntingbc.ca website and said hello, then I followed him around while he stocked me up on downrigger gear, carried my stuff to the counter and was generally very helpful!

Was in the Wholesale in SE Calgary last week. I think it was the original. Anyways the guy at the counter was definitely an old time reloader.
These guys have been there, done that, that anyone under 50 do not appreciate. You actually have to have experience to really appreciate him.

the guys in lethbridge seem better at least there's no take a # yet but the last time
i was in russell i got a bit of attitude (first time for the attitude) had about $300 worth
of reloading stuff asked about hand gun bullets guy replied you see hand guns in here then i guess we don't have it huh

Well said...I was thinking the same thing. Where I work, I am management. I get tired of hearing how everything is our fault.

And now a word from the management :D. No walther, I have nothing to do with WSS so not to worry, but my wife and I do own a retail business with more than a 1/2 doz FT employees, who are well trained and paid for what they do. That said, as owner I can tell you you've got to kiss a lot of frogs in search of the few princes you want as employees?

Don't know the product ? Haven't had a raise in 5 years? Don't know enough about inventory and ordering to be entrusted with the task ? This is all someone else's fault ? I think I know the problem.

Check out the guy there who does know what he's doing and you'll see he reads product material (that comes with the product) on his own rather than stand there bleating that someone should infuse him. He'll also ask for more responsibility rather than stand around waiting for things to happen. He'll understand the difference between sales and order taking and try to match customer needs with what is available rather than responding "no, don't have one of those". These are the guys management try to keep, so they invest in them. The rest are warm bodies and lucky to be getting their 12 bucks.

No business owner/operator wants to invest time and money developing demanding generation "Y" types. Performing well in spite of difficult scenarios is what successful people do. Blaming management may well be justified. How's it working for you?

They are both owned by the same group - UFA
