took my marlin 336 into the new wholesale location at deerfoot meadows yesterday to see if they could shed some light on why might marlin with reciever sight was shooting high and to the right no matter how i adjusted the sight. anyways, heres what they told me. i kinda knew right off the bat they were full of it. apparently the micro-groove rifling in my 336 doesn't do well with modern hunting ammunition(this was from them)because the high velocity of the bullet is not able to bite into the rifling. then he looks at the crown, and says "hey buddy, you need to get your barrel re-crowned!" and he calls one of his all knowing co-workers over, and says "what do you think of the crown on this barrel?" he takes a quick look and says "looks fine to me, except for a bit of copper fouling at the muzzle" so then they bring over a new 336 from the rack and say "this new 336 has ballard cut rifling wich will work much better with your hunting ammunition, and its only $419!" first off, i knew the entire 336 line has micro-groove rifling, i knew micro-groove rifling performs fine with a copper jacket. don't let the knew pretty store fool you, the same idiots still work behind the gun counter and it blows me away the level they're sunk to. i thought i left my "chump" necklace at home...
thats the last time i'll prompt them with a question about my iron, those guys are only good at bringing stock up from the back!
