Ordered a $1500 rifle, waited 3 months for it to come from and nothing. When I was in Edmonton I stopped at WSS and asked if they had thetype of rifle I ordered in stock, they said they had 1 but they were holding it to fill an order from Saskatoon. So I told them it was my damn order and just bought it there and learned to never order from WSS again.
I placed mine last friday about the same value not that it should make a difference and it was here yesterday.
Just placed another one this afternoon so I will let you know how that does. This one I called in the 1st one I ordered on line

I also placed a significant order with Wholesale - no issues here. I called the 1-800 before ordering to make sure everything was in stock first. Ordered on a Wednesday and got a confirmation that everything was mailed on a Friday. No issue with that from my side. The greatest - maybe not, but, still pretty darn good.

waited 3 months for .338 lapua then cancelled, been waiting 4 months now for .45 lead doubt its ever coming.... took 3 weeks to get a harris bipod adapter that they HAD in stock.
Wholesale Sports is owned by UFA (United Farmers of Alberta). I suspect there is a severe lack of management leadership in the company. There stocking practice is terrible. Most times their shelves are half empty. I don't understand how they can afford to have that much floor space not used. Same issues with their on line store. It is as likely as not that they will not have stock, and will back order it.
I also tried to buy a gun which was in stock in Calgary and have it shipped to an Edmonton Store which is only a few blocks away. It turned out to be a nightmare. They shipped the wrong gun, and two months later, still could not get the gun from Calgary to Edmonton. I finally called the Calgary story and talked to someone who was willing to take the gun out of a box, confirm it was the right one, and put it aside for me. I then drove the 600+ km to go and pick it up.
Their systems are totally disorganized. Many companies now like Costco.ca for example do not even stock items in stores or warehouses. They use supplier stock direct from the supplier location. FedEx and others just pick it up at the supplier and deliver it to your door, typically in 3 business days or so. Wholesale Sports is still in the dark ages.
Hopefully Cabalas (when they get to Edmonton) and Bass Pro will put some pressure on them to improve. If they don't, then I suspect they will go under. They can't continue to operate the way they do now.

You nailed this one on the head. A good example is why they have a main warehouse/yard in the middle of Calgary... prime real estate they could sell and make a bundle. I can't think of many farmers or ranchers that would want to venture into the middle of the city to buy fence posts, barbed wire and blocks of salt, unless of course the wife wants want to hit some big shopping malls in the same trip. I chatted once with a gent who was in the financial business and said UFA was terribly miss-managed, he predicted the this would just spill over Wholesale when they we taken over.... I guess he was right.
In all fareness to them, I must say that I've never had any trouble with their Calgary store, guys behind the counter are always helpful, ladies at customer service are great, and they usually have what i'm looking for. Never tried the internet order, after reading the posts here I don't think I will.
Have had no problems with WSS (purhased components from them on 3 seperate occasions). That said, I have always ordered by phone and asked them to check if it was in stock first - which apparently does not always work according to some of the posts.
I wish they would copy Cabela's website (i.e., indicates when an item is out of stock).

I cant stand WSS, but alot of times have no other option in Saskatoon. I prefer one other local store, north pro, but they just dont carry the amount of stock on hand and have a tiny little showroom compared to WSS. One other option in town has gun parts and the final is full of idiots that barley even say hi when you walk into their store.. I hope Saskatoon will get a Cabelas sometime in the near future as well. Would put WSS out of business or force them to get better.
As for our gun counter, there are two fella's who r great, they know their stuff, they like to help out and all, the rest, well ya not so much. For the service I get in the store and the fact it took 4 months to get me a die set from Calgary, I will never use their online ordering, rather use cabelas anyday!!!

I love the store, the staff is great, but I have not had good experience with placing orders. Basically I heard nothing back, not even a year or more later. It just falls off the map. But if they have it in stock, its a great place to shop.
I now call the place "NoSale Sports."
I placed an order on the 4th of december, two weeks later I call and still was not sent. I told them it was a gift for my son so they offered to send it express for an extra fee. I said that I would try them again so i placed an order for reloading items which was in stock this time it took 7 weeks. From now on I will get my supplies from Henry Nierychlo.

WSS good luck getting anything. I went to buy a new rifle in Winnipeg, they did not have so I asked them to check the other stores, they said they had no stock. I put a want ad on here and was told they had the rifle at Calgary I called and confirmed they had it.
So rather chance it I bought one off a member on here. I don't think a company like that deserves to get any of my money.
And if you think that SIR/Cabelas is any better. They are an even bigger JOKE. I wanted to buy some brass and the line I got was " the guy that orders doesn't believe in reloading so we don't have any". I asked about ordering and the clerk laughed at me and said if we don't have it then your not getting it.

Well, thats the funny thing. You try to use the local stores before you order online, but they have bugger all in stock. We have two stores in Edmonton, where the south side store is horrible for having anything other than "top ten" items. Last week I was in there and half of the loading supply isles were bare. What was left on the shelf had no prices, and the remainder of the reloading items like bullets were all behind the shelf where you have to ask one of the under-qualified staff members to find you a price. and again, and again...
The north side store seems to have a bit more inventory, but good luck getting any expertise. You have to know exactly what you want because they can't tell you nor are interested in looking.
Most of my loading supplies I pick up at P&D or purchase online or while traveling. The funny thing is when you go into WSS, they give you the attitude like they are the only game in town, which now that we have internet shopping, they get a smaller peice of the pie than ever. I buy less and less from them every year, and now we have Cabellas coming to town. Its true some customers can do a lot of complaining for a $50 or $100 purchase, but they fail to realize that some people spend 50 or 100 bucks several times per week. At one time they were a good place to go, now they get a very small part of my sporting cash. I guess all things evolve, and the sun still comes up tomorrow morning.
