Wholesalesports

WSS is great for stuff you need, like patches, targets, solvent, and things of that nature.
But yeah, they have stocking issues for sure... I live near a new store in BC (opened about six months ago or so), so i've been cutting them some slack for the lack of abundance I saw when i visited the Winnipeg store recently because of their recent opening. see how it goes, it's like pulling teeth trying to buy a 10/22 at that place! - Think I'll order from Frontier anyways

I know that they have recently laid off a bunch of folks from the Edmonton north store. FS

No kidding. The last three or four times I have been in there they haven't had what I needed.

And they seem willing to put just about anyone on the gun counter these days. Last time I asked for .224" Barnes Varmint Grenade bullets. The clerk replied that they don't carry those. Funny, cause I have bought them there before AND they have a bunch of them sitting on the shelf behind me just not in the caliber I was looking for. He had to come out and look for himself and then in the tradition of all fools who don't know what they are talking about replied, "Oh .22 cal, is what you want!" No #### sherlock, .224" being the nominal caliber of all .22 centrefire calibers. :(
 
Wholesale sports has serious issue with their website and in their warehouse. They list items by one manufactuer whe clearly the item in the ad is RCBS. They don't even have items categorized properly. Example rimfire ammo in the centrefire section of the website.

My first experience with WSS was an order I made for an item waited a week or two. decieded screw'em canceled it and ordered from Cabelas. I had the item three days later.

About 8 weeks later I get a call. "

WSS: Hi this is so and so from wholesale sports your dies are in and we are wondering if you still want them?

Me: I cancelled that order didn't I?

Wss: Yes but they are here now.

Me:I bought them from Cabelas when you lied to me and told me they were in stock and they were not. I had them in my hand in two days from Cabelas and at a cheaper price. I told you this in the email I wrote when I cancelled the order."

Wss: Uh click.

I went and checked their website after that and every single item I checked right down to the biggest wall tent Woods makes was listed as in stock. About a month later the site stopped showing if items were in stock or not.
 
Was looking for a H&R Varmint rifle, spoke to WSS and Cabelas.

WSS said they had one in Calgary (I'm in Edmonton) and they could get it shipped up. It would take 4 to 8 weeks!

So it's sounds like you don't have one and you're waiting for stock.

Spoke to Cabelas, confirmed stock and had the rifle in less than a week.

WSS, if it's on the shelf and in front of you great. If not you're SOL to even ask them to order it.

Still waiting on a set of test weights from this time last year :(

I agree with that one. I find WSS to be one of those places you MUST know who to ask and who to get help from. There is a younger guy working at the Northside Edmonton store in the gun and optics areas who I like to deal with: while most of the older employees have an attitude problem. The southside has inexperienced people but at least I get help without an attitude.

It used to be that on almost anything WSS was cheaper than anywhere else, but not any more: prices at places like P&D are so close it doesn't matter any more. Occasionally due to volume buying WWS has something cheaper IF they have it! I would much rather go to somewhere like P&D where I seem to find excellent service.

It also makes me mad when you look at the WSS or Cabela's US site and see so much more stuff. I'm not talking about high capacity magazines and stuff like that: I'm talking about more reloading supplies, clothing and so on. The US site will have 900,000 items (made up number for example) while the Canadian website has 400,000 items and only 200,000 are in stock, and the store is lucky to have 150,000 items.

For a gift for a friend I once had a leather belt slide (that held both 12ga and 45colt) on order for 3 years: the WSS customer service rep would always tell me that the system said their supplier had shipped it to Calgary. I had finally forgot the damn thing until one day I got an e-mail to say the order was cancelled by their system: the manufacture's goods were removed from the website. I was never charged for it in the end but I never once got an appology or a reason for the failed order.

I called the southside Edmonton WSS last weekend and had them do a stock check on something and I was told the Northside store had the last one. So I went to the northside Edmonton WSS to pick it up (they had it, surprise!) but thought to inquire about something else. They didn't have it (no surprise) so I asked if any other stores had stock and they said that their ordering and inventory system was being totally re-done over: they would not be able to check stock on anything for two weeks. Maybe true, maybe a lazy clerk. I don't know.

I have always been told that shipping between stores was "when they had a truck full". I said that could takes months and their reply was, "then pay for shipping off the website."

I was also looking at an item in their catalogue once and when their system didn't even have it I was told that, "you can never trust the US idiots that made this catalogue" by one of their own staff!!! :eek:

Well, there's my longest rant in a while: sorry CGN'ers!! :yingyang:

Overall, disappointed. :(

Yup buddy was looking for a knife. They had it in their catalogue. Didn't have one in the store. He wanted to order it and they guy on the counter told him to go and use the website or PHONE in the order to the store, WE WERE STANDING IN, because it was too hard for him to do the paper work to order him one. Buddy ordered the knife from another supplier.

WSS , you might as well go to Wal-Mart or Canadian Tire for your shooting needs.
 
i called off and on for 3 hours and never got to speak to anyone. i guess placing an order with them is useless. no wonder they call the place Nosale Sports.
 
the only time i buy from wholesale is when i'm actually in the store and find something i need for a lower price than i can find elsewhere. i won't order online or over the phone from them. if they don't have it in stock, on the shelf in front of me, i'll buy it somewhere else.
 
Patiently waiting for the Cabela's store to open here in Edmonton next fall. I think that will be a real eye opener for at least the 2 stores here in town. I can't see them ever going out of business, but Cabela's is going to kick their butts unless they put in a severely stripped down store. If the Cabela's vs. WSS stores in Washington are any indication, it's going to be a real eye opener for WSS Edmonton.
 
Wholesale Sports is frustrating at the best of time. It seems that anytime you talk to someone behind the gun counter, you wonder how they ever got a job at a gun store.
 
I was at both WSS and Cabelas in Winnipeg today. There was more staff then customers in WSS while it was hard to find even a parking spot at Cabelas. Neither one of them had anything in stock that I was looking for but I'm use to that.
 
I remember an older friend that use to be into guns telling me that Wholesale Sports was the only place to buy back in the day. He said the orders came in on time the prices were good along with the knowledge.

This really took me by surprise as I have never seen this. I use Wholesale like Wal-Mart, you know what you came for and you’re in an out... never put anything on order... ever

But I have to say that Calgary Wholesale has really stepped up their 'friendly and helpful' game. It almost felt like I was in the US at Cabelas today.
