not un-doable, but maybe some cost in it all, better off rebarrellin a 2nd handy 223 or so ?

I actually have a fireball on order , I can wait .. been stock piling ammo an brass for 9months ! How would you compare the too for knock down power at 150yrds ??

love my 17 rems, model 7 and a 700 bdl, pet load is 23.3 gr. ww 748, under a 20 gr vmax, rem 7 1/2 primers. Pretty much my favorite varmint rifles. Been shooting 17's a long time. Even like my little hmr.

I have a Sako vixen laminate in 17 rem it is a beautiful little gun, I am running 25 grain Hornady in front of 26.5 grains of win 760 it flattens them out in a hurry.

I don't have a .17 rem, but do have a rem700 LH sps varmint in .17 fireball. My go to load is 20gr IMR 8208XBR and a .20gr Nosler Varmageddon. Consistently hitting 4050fps. I shot one beaver and it dropped instantly abd many, many gophers. Fingers crossed I will finally land a coyote with it this fall. I have a load worked for .25gr Hornady HP and they're going at 3850 fps. The only downside to the fireball is that it is nearly impossible to fimd brass and if you do, you pay a stupid mount for it. I have a buddy who's while family has a hard on for .17s. They all own .17 mach2, .17 hmr, .17 hornets, .17 fireballs and .17 rem. Their "go to" calling guns are CZ527 Varmints in .17 rem. I cant remember their exact load but it's a .25 gr hornady HP at around 4000fps. They consistently drop coyotes out to 250 yards with little to no fur damage.

I've got a bdl in a Cdl stock and this bugger shoots lights out with a 25 gr hornady h.p. in front of 24.5 gr of varget. 4025fps and it shoots lazer beam flat. I love this gun!
150 yard zero. Great tuned trigger. I practice at 250 fairly often and even when I think I've 'pulled ' a shot it still makes a 2" group for 5 shots. No recoil. No 'BOOM'. Very easy to fall in love with the .17rem. Everyone should own one.

I laughed at my buddies with .17s, then we went gopher hunting and I just could not compete with my 10/22 (except on close shots) or my .22 bolt action out further.

The .17s are more expensive but I shoot way less ammo then I did with .22s, as they rip gophers apart.

Love my Savage .17!!
