Because its better than a sks
^This, is my primary reason. If I end up having to get rid of some collection, I won't be without a battle rifle.Battle rifles, what's NOT to like?
I can hammer my moose with one, or keep my family safe from a bear, or shoot targets with it.
Try that with a glorified .22!
Can someone explain why an SKS isn't considered a "battle rifle"? Not being deliberately obtuse, just wondering as to the definition of "battle rifle" since the SKS is also 7.62 and military-issued. Or is it because it only has the semi-auto option?

Pretty sure you're confusing this rifle with the Mosin 3 line which is well documented as being a simple, rugged rifle that all countrymen could maintain with little to no training. That says it all! The SKS was designed to be used by Russian peasants that could be trained in under 5 minutes so that they could supply a large volume of bullets down range semi accurately under 100 meters while covering the assault of other illiterate peasants.
