Why Bullpups are SICKKKKK!

yes, but he keeps looking down and starts losing awareness......I think he is a cadet, note the uniform on the hanger.

Some kid messing around doing reloads with a FN2000. Doesn't seem to be having much trouble. Note: not a Marine or professional.

It would be a more fair comparison to have an Israeli professional soldier equivalent to the Marine demonstrate the drill.

Plus that video was apparently a couple of years ago. There's a memo on the top saying he's much better now and will be doing a new video.

Lefties should learn to be righties instead. Would save them the hassle of finding a south paw friendly gun.

:kickInTheNuts:

LOL!

However, that's actually closer to the truth than most want to admit. :) If not for a right eye injury I would have gone down this path already, as it would have made life much more convenient on a number of levels.

Besides, my grandfather was determined that no grandson of his was going to be lefty. Don't really know what the social stigma of the day was (he was a bit of a socialist, so I don't think it was political) that made him feel that way, but until the eye incident he pressed hard to make me use the "correct" hand in all activities.

In any case I'm a lefty forever now, so bring on the sickest (and most importantly...coolest lookin') rifles made today...ambi bullpups!

TDC is "the comic book guy" of cgn.

I just can't contribute into this thread without puttin some Airborn art..

That's a fumble!

I gotta say GT these vids pretty much prove nothing. One guy can practice mag changes in any platform and get fast enough that real world effectiveness is unchanged. I think you could get about as fast with a Tavor as you would ever practically need to be.

Honestly why are you such a HATER when it comes to non AR type rifles??? :nest: :nest: :nest: :D

Not a hater - it is just physics. If the magwell is right under your cheek, then you have no choice but to look down or raise the rifle.

If one has to run and change mag at the same time, then the rifle needs to be raised higher in the air so to keep the head up, or risk running into the wall.

Like I said before, there is a price for comfort. I never say bullpup is bad, but everyone has to work with the pros, but also know to work around the cons.

I always said bullpup is a good general rifle - but I completely disagree when people said bullpup is a "CQB" weapon.

This PLA guy is pretty good, he still has too look down while doing the work. ( and bobbing up and down )

It's too bad about the Type 97 (dilemma with RCMP). That rifle is one of the only few odd bullpups that still supports a bayonet. I'd really wanted to get one, but with the bleak outlook, I basically settled with what was accessible at the time (an AR variant). Though, I gotta admit, I lucked out on an awesome (hard to acquire) SDI carbine. So I really can't complain, but wasn't originally what I had planned to get as my first 5.56mm firearm.

Yea, internet vids tell you nothing regarding speed. The user may have just been issued the rifle or used it for years, fired 1 round or thousands, practiced mag changes for minutes or hours...

Most instructors are teaching shooters to pull the rifle into your "workspace" to do your mag changes these days anyhow. Super slick changes in the shoulder are easy in "clean environments" but add real world movement etc to it an people start to fumble, trip and get frustrated etc. If you find yourself in a circumstance where you are actually doing this as a life or death activity then you 1. will likely be covered by a teammate and 2. not look nearly as slick as you did on youtube.

Even the fast bullpup reloads have problems. For starters they're executed without gear/armor. Second, all participants have to look DOWN to execute the reload. This is a non issue for conventional rifles. How do you retrieve a fresh magazine with your support hand while simultaneously dumping your empty mag?? Oh right, you can't!! That alone will add time to the movement which is not experienced with several conventional rifles. Even the "rock and lock" rifles like the VZ can be reloaded by using the full magazine to eject the spent magazine. One motion for two actions. How do you shoot SBU with a magazine sticking out of the stock? How do you reload when prone?

So you're comparing the dinosaur that is the FN-FAL to problem plagued Enfield L85. Neither having issues in the terrain pictured, but its hardly an equal comparison.

TDC

I like this one where you use the fresh mag to eject the empty one so you already have the mag in your hand.

A similar type reload can be accomplished with the VZ. The video you posted 00buck is a poor alternative. Removing your firing hand from the rifle is not a great idea. Short of the magazine being empty, it would be a good idea to have that single round available should you need it. The time taken to move your firing hand to the bolt is no different than the time required to reach over and cycle the bolt/action after inserting a fresh magazine. Not to mention this method doesn't work for lefties and would be near impossible while moving.
