Why did you buy the stevens model 200

I always enjoy to read those tread. If I can pay 300's something dallors to buy a gun that is function enough for hunting and target shooting, why not? If I don't have enough green like Bartell, should I stop shooting? NO.

I will get then tax refund soon....HEEE.

If you htink this is bickering..you haven't been on the internet long...:p

But there is no way they can be compared to a Remington

On this point I agree big time. Nothing is junkier than a Remington

I can see the real beauty of the cheap Stevens. Its not in the eyes, but in the wallet. You couldnt give me one, and Im fine with that. :) Keep yours, love and cherish it, and rub oil on it, and think of your fellow GunNutz doing the same coast to coast. :D
This is the real truth of the matter, when you get down to it. I really don't care if Todbartell doesn't like Stevens rifles, at least he can understand why other people do and respects the fact that they fill a necessary niche (ie; cheap & accurate hunting rifles). I, in turn, can respect Todbartell's assertion that nice rifles are worth the $$$, and I really see no reason why I should try to convince him otherwise. I personally hate it when some jackass tries to ram his opinion down my throat, so why would I do that to someone else?

Todbartell; that is a gorgeous rifle, very nice. I'll probably never own one, but I can still appreciate a fine firearm when I see one. When my grandpa would pull out his Beretta O/U to show my brother and I what a real shotgun looked like, I was always impressed, and will continue to be impressed by quality firearms until I can't see anymore :D I don't really plan on owning any, since I have a tendency to bash my rifles around (I always buy synthetic, I'd hate to bash around a nice wood stock, I'd feel bad :( ) and I value function over form. My taste in cars is the same, I'd rather have something that's ugly and works like a charm than something that costs more $$$ (that I probably don't have) and works, for all intents and purposes, just as good as my piece of junk :D

No s**t.....

They're like pussycats lately, the snow must have all melted at the ranges and they've got their aggressions out of them.:D

Then again, Darryl hasn't been posting much lately, maybe that has something to do with it.;) :)

Actually I toned that down before I posted it.

ever notice how these start off with a simple question, statement, or whatever and then turn into a "my dad can beat up your dad" argument?

Ladies and Gentlemen, in the one corner with the remington, we have bartell and in the other corner we have everybody else with slingshots. Lets get ready to RUMBLE!

"My gun is bigger than your gun"

Well, after all the crap is said and gone, you get what you pay for period!

Some people say Norincos are great, cheap, and effective. But you will never see one in my safe!

I have owned four Savages and been very happy with them, but this is what I think of as a cheap gun. Dont know if I would buy a Stevens or not, maybe for the action but probably not.

Low to medium end rifles all have aspects about them that make them fugly in some way or another, but I guess there has to be comprimise somewhere.

:D

hey, get real...

It has zero to do with my dad beating up your dad, and everyhting to do with what you asked for.

bartel and I gave you an honest evaluation. That is what you wanted.....

I believe they are honest evaluations, if you don't like it, then that is too bad.

Hey I thought you were being kind to the Stevens owners Gate.:)
On a scale of one to ten I give the Stevens a two for presentation and a three for functionality. The only thing that scores lower in the affordable hunting rifle categegory would be a Reminton 710.
I pity you poor bastards who believe it is OK to hunt with ugly rifles because they are inexpensive... your Momma probably told you that you were good looking too. Take a hard look in the mirror... those aren't beauty spots on your face, they're just pimples.:p

Makes one wonder that if the internet was around when Remington introduced their model 788, years ago, if there would have been a similiar thread. The 788 as a no frills, cheaply priced rifle, with rear locking lugs, different safety, plain birch stock, would be by some (judging by this thread) considered an ugly, cheap looking rifle, not worthy of adorning any gun rack or hunting camp. The 788 is no longer produced, not because it was ugly, or cheap looking and didn't sell, no it was because this reasonably priced rifle was out shooting and out selling Remingtons flag ship the model 700.

My hat goes of to Savage, Mossberg for the ATR (but not Rem for the 710) and to the members of GN (you know who you are) who sell reasonalbly priced used rifles to assist our youth, and/or anyone else who may not be able to afford a more expensive rifle, so that person can enjoy the sport/hobby that the rest of us do.

BD..

You can pity me all you want. I absolutely don't care what my rifle looks like. All I care about is that it works. I have no regrets in buying my 22-250 as it is very effective gopher control. It has 200 rounds through it without a failure and is absolutely lethal against gophers. The money I saved will pay for my reloading equipment. If I had the money to buy a more expensive gun I still wouldn't as this gun fits my needs perfectly. That's just me though.

a rifle beyond form and function is a personal as an individuals taste in women ,
Does it mean they are right or wrong to have preference of one to another?
No it just means that they enjoy something other then another person .

I dont think Todd or Gatehouse is saying anything out of line at all they are simply giving an honest take and pointing out what they consider to be short comeings on the firearm we are talking about . It has been done in a good natured way and has really givin me some good chuckles (I still can't get rid of the image of the pickled indian head on the stock  )

I had a 788 in 223 a few years gone by and i have to admit i really disliked it , Logicly speaking It was well put together, shot well and looked good but for reasons i couldnt learn to live with there were things that gnawed at me about the rifle.
It had a funky safety, sometimes didnt feed well, the stock didnt fit me as well as it could have , rear locking lugs. these were things that just didnt let me enjoy the rifle as i should have .
I eventually sold it for more then i paid for it to someone that could appreciate it .

A rifle for the most part has to have something (a certain quality ,be it a caliber or maker or it could even had been a rifle of someone special that has long since passed) about it that make it worth carrying ,

just my two cent plus GST&PST

this has gotten good :D

I hope you all enjoy shooting whatever you shoot

I better get out of this computer room and go out and put a few rounds through my Remington m700 223 before it gets dark
