Why do Chinese SKS' typically cost more than Russian?

SKS is still a good deal… consider the price if manufactured today… the stocks might be better.. but the steel wouldn't be.

typically they don't make things like they used too.

modern cars are a great example.. not built to last.

I recently bought an unfired Chinese sks for 200 cash from a gun store in Nova Scotia, still loaded with cosmoline when i bought it. I didn't realize they were so hard to find.

I scored one on the ee for 150$ about a month ago;)

In real nice shape as well , looked to only have had a few rounds thru it.
I still have not fired it:p

The letter series chinese carbines are from 1959 and 1960. They consist of 24 LATIN letter prefixes.

All Jianshe /26\ guns are identical to the Russians in quality etc... some swear better. This one is an obvious refurb.

Yes I believe mine is called the sino soviet because it has the russian letter first.

Because people are tupid and pay more money for a cheap copy of the Russian sks. The steel in china is crap so don't get all the Chinese sks must be better. Screw that stick with Russian. Made in china sucks. Go ahead prove me wrong. The Chinese sks is made from old tercels and civics, ya great quality right from the junky steal right up to the Chinese factory workers made up of children and drug addicts.

Whether its a lack of quality Jianshe guns in Canada or lack of research, this is by far the most uninformed comment I have read thus far on CGN.

People really need to read the latest updates to the SKS sticky threads. Especially the chinese thread. That and read the posted links from SKS-files dot com.

Loose cannon knows his stuff. Many cgn users are still in the dark. Too many rumour mill historians.

It is believed that the full soviet/sino relations split briefly interrupted the SKS production at Jianshe in 1961. All serials observed thus far have been sub 22k indicating maybe 2-3 weeks of production compared to similar era production numbers. Please note, the first digit (in this case the 6) is simply the 1961 year designation as illustrated in the Chinese SKS dating thread http://sks-files.com/chinese-sks-military/17/q-when-was-my-chinese-type-56-sks-made/360/ All digits after the 6 will indicate the actual # produced that year.

Fenceline, I added this one in CA to the list. Its likely the only 6m 1961 Jianshe in all of canada which easily makes it 12,000 times more rare then any russian. $400 in my opinion is a bargain.... especially in Canada.

You would be the expert on Canadians and guns living in texass.

Really wasn't meaning be jerkey man, but that comment was over the moon and past the stars out in lala land.

#1 china invents black powder
#2 china invented the gun
#3 most parts on early chinese sks are russian.
#4 show me a chinese sks that mysteriously shattered

looking at the info in the chinese sks stickey am i correct in saying that this example is a 1970 manfacture date rifle

If any of you guys need help dating your chicom, check out the info I posted in the sticky like Gordon did, or drop me a line. There are a few scrubbed guns etc that require a more indepth look to narrow down.

No sir.. each arsenal was not allocated certain serial blocks. Runningman is referring to /26\ guns produced in 1970 showing a last year low production # before stopping production from 71 to 77. Similar to the 1961 /26\ the serial data shows around 20k produced resulting from as little as 2-3 weeks worth of production compared to the previous years.

The 1970 "1.5m" /26\ was the missing link as this last year did not have a millionths placeholder serial like all other years at /26\… proof the first 1-2 digits are the year designator regardless to how many digits are actually in the serial. We could then apply this same rule of thumb to date almost ALL non 26 guns.

Behold... the Missing Link. This is rifle # 1814 produced in 1970 at Jianshe /26\. Only 4 of these recorded thus far.
