Why do I feel the need to get a Glock

I'll play. Becuase you like a gun that naturaly points high, has a grip angle taken from the Luger, a hump in the grip that now comes with aggressive checkering to enhance an already uncomfortable grip and lastly because you saw a nice set of decent sights that will fit on the Glock.

For me its the most naturally pointing gun ive owned. Its like an extension of my arm. I find the grip quite comfortable. Ill never understand those arguments. I will agree the stock sights are garbage, but its easy to get better ones.

If you like to drink Kool Aid, get yourself a Glock. If you like to drink anything else, get something with a little more character.

Some people just like to follow the masses and hate glocks due to the Glock haters out there. Ive owned and shot a majority of handguns of different makes. For me the Glock is the best. I like it because of that, not because somebody on the internet says so.

Glocks are meant to be cleaned?

I put about 2000 rounds in the last 4 months through mine and haven't cleaned it.

Many guns can go a long time without cleaning...have read tests where guns have gone 50,000 rounds without a cleaning...

BUT

a simple cleaning and lubing every 500-1000 rounds will dramatically increase the life of your pistol and its parts as well as cut down on any possible malfunctions.

Was bought a glock by my parents for my first firearm, so therefor I would never sell it. That being said, I probably wouldn't buy another one. Too many other firearms out there come before them. Actually, I would probably buy another firearm I already own as appose to another glock of different caliber.

Great pistols, work great, I shoot it well. But the luster is not there for me

Because GUNNY said so!!

What other reason do you need?

Glocks work as well as or better than any service pistol available, and the aftermarket support in terms of holsters etc is bigger than for any other pistol. Any parts you ever need are available at a moment's notice for a couple of dollars and swapping them is a two-minute job. If you want one, get one. You won't lose much on it if you decide to sell it.

Folks here really has Multiple complex issues.

Get it if you want it, after all it is another toy. Amazing how folks can have such luv/hate for a toy/tool.

Glocks work

I carried one daily for about 15 years (and shot thousands of rounds through it), then was without one for 8 years. The itch was strong - and now I've finally got a Glock 22 of my own. It feels good in my hand - it's like coming home.

+1

Carried one for many years. Have shot thousands of rounds thru Glocks of various descriptions & ctgs. First week I was issued one, I also completed the then Glock armorers course, qualified as a transition pistol instructor and put over 5K rounds thru a Glock 22. Then went on to help transition a couple hundred people from the .38 Spl wheelgun to the G22 .40 cal pistol. Up until then I thought Glocks were ugly & had no character. Developed a new respect for them because of the above experience. Haven't been without one since.

These days, being 'retired', I am no longer "issued" a Glock. I have one out of personal choice. It's a plain vanilla 2nd gen, ex-cop, nite sited, G22 .40 cal. BTW, I do have other pistols as well.... BHP's, 1911's etc. And in other ctgs, too. 9mm; .40 S&W, .45ACP; 10mm etc. But that 'no character' G22 would still be my go-to over all others.

Just my .05 ........

Buy a Glock and just go about your day. No worrying, no issues. Its the gun you wanna hate but cant get away from how durable, accurate they're. Just buy the gen 4 17 and have a nice day! :)

Okay - this is kind of a range report/assessment of the new Gen4 G22, reporting for the "pro-Glock" side, I suppose...

Just took my brand new Glock 22 out to the range for the first time yesterday. It was amazing, even better than I remembered. The Gen4 trigger is great, and needs no modification at all. This IS supposed to be a service pistol, NOT a bench-rested target pistol. I recalled that the Gen2 I was issued had a sweet trigger once it was worn in some, but this one is worlds better, right out of the box. It is smooth, light, crisp, and absolutely predictable.

By the way, I am no neophyte to pistol shooting - I have been doing so since 1976, and have owned & shot a LOT of pistols over the years.

I do need to adjust the rear sight a smidgen to the right - I had the store replace the stock sights with Trijicons, because that's what my issue gun had, but they didn't zero them when they installed them. They are very close, but with just a tweak they'll be perfect.

I had a buddy with me (pretty much a new guy to handguns), and it was so natural for him that he instinctively shot tight groups with it and right to the point of aim (well, a little left, due to the aforementioned slight sight misalignment). He was very taken with the G22.

NAA (CNG mod, as in post #57, above) is a good friend of mine and, trust me, he knows more about most handguns than most of us will ever know. As far as Glocks are concerned, he is "the pro from Dover". Funny story, back in the day, when he & I were heavily into shooting 1911's (by that time he was a collector & acknowledged expert on 1911's), he came back from the Glock Armorer's course, I asked him about Glocks, as I knew nothing about them. He said that it was a good news/bad news thing. The good news - Glocks were fantastic guns. The bad news - I was going to like them better than 1911's! I was aghast - I LOVE my 1911's - but he was right. The G22,at least, was a winner. My opinion has not changed, although the G22 has - but only for the better.

Is the Glock for everyone? No, of course not, just like one style of shoes are not for everyone. But don't let anyone tell you they are crap - if they do, you can guess what their advice is full of. Maybe they don't personally like them, and that's fine, but their opinion doesn't alter the fact that millions of them are the chosen service pistol for armies, police departments, tactical teams, special forces, etc. all over the world. There is a reason for that (and low price ain't it!). They're reliable, they're accurate, and they're very easy to shoot well.

I suggest you shoot as many different pistols as you can before making your decision. You may hate the ergonomics of the Glock, and love the SIG, or vice versa, or something else entirely. There is no substitute for experience.
