Why do SA 1911's get such a mediocre response?

I always buy Toyota's..... not sure how that translates into my gun preferences :D With guns I prefer to have the best, even if it means I can only afford to have one or two guns in my collection.

In any case, it would be a miracle to see me spend my money on anything other than an HK. I have an unhealthy obsession with HK products.

I found gun are like cars everybody likes a different one. I love mustangs but the guy next door dig VW and everything else is crap to him. Its all preference I say.
Btw for 1911 I'm going with a STI:)

How about one of the Kimber wide bodies? Polymer frame, which you seem to like OK with all the H&K bug, and the double stack .45 might fit your massive mitts better :D They are also the cheapest of the Kimber line, and I tip my hat to Kimber for not marketing it as a 'high tech' and thus pricier 1911, they cost less for Kimber to make, so Kimber charges less :) TSE carries them for WELL under $1K, they are SA'esque price wise.
 
While the frames and slides for SA are cast in Brazil, depending on the model the balance are assembled in the US. I like Para's cause they are Canadian made in a country that has not had governments who particularily support pistol sports shooting.

This 'abacus' was designed by the same man (John Moses Browning) who designed all the Winchester lever actions - and here we are 120 years later still shooting the same thing. ABACUS indeed! :p

I hope you also like the fact that they charge their Canadian customers significantly more for the same guns than what they charge their Americans customers.

Sorry, but I can't see how the fact that Para makes their guns in Canada is praiseworthy in and of itself. They are in the gun business to make money not to "stick it to the man" or whatever. Does Para Ordnance contribute to the fight against gun control in any meaningful way? Do they lobby the government to repeal Bill C-68? I don’t think so.

When the Brazilian government called a referendum to vote on their proposal to ban civilian firearm ownership, Taurus reacted as if it was a matter of life and death for them personally, despite the fact that the vast majority of the guns they produce are exported to the U.S. Among other things, Taurus spent a significant amount of money on a major media campaign to educate the Brazilian public about the downsides of gun control. The end result was a resounding defeat of the government’s proposal, despite the fact that the overwhelming majority of Brazilians do not own guns and despite the early predictions of an easy win by the government. Now THAT is commendable. If Taurus was a Canadian company they would definitely be getting my business. Unfortunately, Para Ordnance is no Taurus.
 
1911's are like Honda Civics. Sure they're a nice car, sure there is a ton of aftermarket #### that can make you look cool or go fast... But in the end your still driving a civic.

Well about the only thing you have going for you in this statement is "you don't think" for a fact I do know you don't have any idea or knowledge of what Para does or doesn't do. How much has Kimber, Colt or Springfield done in lobbying for C 68 to be repealed? SIGs are $1,145 up here and how much in the States? Priced out a loaded Springfield stateside recently vs what they sell for up here.

When was the last time you bought 9MM Winchester White Box for $3.50 a box amd primers for $15. per thousand?

Your analogy regarding the vote in Brazil which was I believe to ban civilian ownership of firearms and Bill C 68 is weak in the extreme.

The SA's are great guns. I had a SS TRP and loved it. Had to sell it to finance a Kimber Compact though. Not that I thought the Kimber was better, just that I had to have the compact/officer's sized pistol and Kimber was the only one to offer it (Les Baer does to but were a little to much $$$).

Buy the SA and you will get your moneys worth. Just my opinion. Mileage may vary ;) .

Alright, since you are obviously more knowledgeable on this subject than I am, please explain exactly what does Para Ordnance do in order to promote gun ownership in Canada? I'd be very interested to know.

When did Kimber, Colt and Springfield become Canadian companies? All of these companies contribute to the NRA and do all sorts of other things to promote gun ownership in their home jurisdiction.

Which Sig are you talking about? P220/226? Those sell for $999 CAN in Canada and about $700 US in the States. Not that much of a difference considering that the Canadian middleman needs to make a buck and that, unlike Para Ordnance, SIGs are brought here from a foreign country and import duties need to be paid.

Right, because as we all know, Bill C-68 was a "public safety initiative", not a politically-motivated ploy to take guns away from law-abiding Canadians.:rolleyes:

If you think Para Ordnance is such a great company, read the Toronto police accountability bulletin about how they bribed a chair of the Toronto Police Services Board to get special favors. Looks like Para Ordnance has got its priorities straight:

Really, its not a level playing field capp325. Bucking the government, particularly our recent liberal one, is one thing when you're just carping away like we do on CGN with nothing at stake, and quite another when your business enterprise exists only at that government's pleasure. IMHO they've got big balls just staying in Canada instead of f**king off to a friendlier venue, taking their jobs and taxes with em.

BTW, on the advice of friends, a couple of years ago, I bought a Kimber Stainless Custom. Accurate, reliable, nicely finished shooter. I'm happy!
