Good lord what a generally huge waste of time it is almost as bad as some of the junk the CBC produces. Seems all it is is endless reruns of MASH or lame "reality shows' .

They do history stuff some times...

I do like Pawn stars and Pickers but I am sick of all the gold mining shows, ice road truckers, and now that train one. You watch an episode or two of the train one and have seen what there is to see.

Simple answer...Morons.

The History Channel is like any other channel, it is a business. They study viewing habits. The shows that consistently get more viewers can sell more advertising, so they make more shows like that. Actual high quality documentaries got low ratings. Dumba$$ shows got high ratings. So, now History Channel shows mostly dumba$$ shows (because they make more money).

Each to there own, it’s easy if you don’t like what they are showing don’t watch. Some people just want everyone to be like them that is the real problem.

You mean IRT, Yukon Gold, Cdn Pickers, Swamp people and Duck Dynasty aren't real history? Those penetrating investigations into Hitler's last hideaway and/or gold stash are pretty goofy too:rolleyes:

About 18 years ago they finished with a complete re-run of "Combat"which many of us watched for basic training back in the early 1960s.;) It would be good to see them again. I'd like to see them run "Ice Pilots" again, which is an interesting blend of historic aircraft and various personalities in play.

They used to have a program where they would show a documentary and then a Hollywood movie about the same topic hosted by a woman named Anne and a guest from the actual event. That was good.

The American History channel did something for a short time as well with Lou Diamond Phillips as the host.

Now.....it's usually just on as background noise while I do other things.

It used to be good. Used to watch Combat and Tour of Dury with my dad. Turning Points of History used to be on in the early morning too, which I liked to watch before school. I also kind of liked History on Film (or was it Fact and Film) with that older lady host where they discussed the diferences between actual events and the film’s portrayal of them. Not it’s just lame “reality” shows. Sad!

If you have Amazon Prime, Prime Video is loaded with all the good documentaries that used to be on the History Channel when it wasn't bread and circuses.

Didn't they do a series about the Civil War. Where did they get their history from Tim Hortons.
They did a story about the 1st United States Sharpshooters founded by Hiram C. Berdan.
It looked like they were the only ones that saved the unions left at Little Round Top.
The 20th Maine stood their ground along with 83 PA, 44 NY, and 16 MI.
There wasn't any mention of them.

Yeah 15 years ago they had some some good shows
Anyone remember the pioneer one where they had a husband and wife play real life pioneer for a year on the prairies ? Pretty awseome
I also liked the the devils brigade one where they had a bunch of reservists trained buy a bunch of old crusty airborne vets who beat on them.

They did two documentaries about the First Special Service Force. One was called "Daring to Die" which the Force Vets loved and the other with the modern reservists redoing what the Force which the Vets absolutely hated.....

Still....both were head and shoulders, above what's on that channel now......
