Why dose it take so long for the C.F.O. To approve the transfer of a restricted gun

This is advice that I was given and that I now give to all of you. Go to the website of the ombudsman for your province and submit a formal complaint. It takes 2 minutes. They are obliged to investigate and find resolution to your problem. If everyone does this, something WILL get done to shorten the unreasonable timeframe. I, like all of you, waited 3 weeks for my transfer and when I called the CFO I was told it would be another 3 weeks... so I put in a formal complaint with my Ontario Ombudsman and 2 days later my transfer was completed. The Ombudsman contacted me, told me he contacted the CFO to find out what was going on, which obviously had an impact on my transfer getting fast-tracked, and listened to my concerns. He was going to further investigate finding resolution to this problem. EVERYONE needs to do this. There is no reason why it takes 2 days to transfer a restricted firearm if you buy it at a store and 6 weeks if you buy it privately... this is an unreasonable period of time. Tell the Ombudsman this.

I did an ontario pistol transfer a few years ago that took 5 weeks they actually said the they were busy
Due to it being hunting season.......hmm.
Best thing to do is give it a week call leave a message with all your info
To make the transfer and they should call back the next day and do it on the spot.

Did you ever here back again? Was the problem resolved?

Like I said, my transfer was processed within 2 days of making the complaint after they told me it was going to be 3 more weeks. So my immediate problem was resolved but the long term problem of chronic unreasonable timeframe is not. This was only a week ago so it will take some time to fix the "system". That is why everyone needs to put in a formal complaint. If they receive hundreds or thousands of the same complaint through the province's Ombudsman, the "system" WILL get fixed.

Don't think so. I've called many times over many pistols and all they say is "sorry not processed yet"... they don't do it on the spot... you are made to wait your turn in the long line. The BEST thing to do is put a formal complaint in with your province's Ombudsman.

Last year my transfer took almost 3 months ........ 2 weeks ago I purchased another prohib and got my att in 4 days
when I went to the store with my ATT they were in shock!!!
They said they never saw a transfer that went so quick especially here in Quebestan

On 3 weeks to the day, I complained to the ombudsman after being told "3 more weeks". It was then approved within 8 hours. If it looks like a rat, smells like a rat... well you get the idea.

The ombudsman told me that they claim it's a "huge increase in transfer volume" that caused the delay and that the CFO claims to be processing 40-50 transfers a day per person times 3 persons. My reply back was that they must take very long coffee breaks since all they do is punch the PAL number into CPIC to look for hits, 2 minutes tops per transfer if they are a slow typist. The ombudsman rep wasn't too pleased with the insinuation, but did offer to call them on my behalf and PRESTO! Approved.

You ask me, they are dragging their @rses on Wyatt's orders.

I guess i got lucky or am good on the phone but it has worked for me which really shows how broke the system is here in ontario.
Literally i would wait 2 weeks with nothing and then call it in and it would be done in 2 mins.

Very long coffee breaks indeed. Next time i do a transfer and run into a problem i will have no problem lodging a complaint then.

I called the CFO office today they said it could be up to another Six weeks so I submitted a complaint today to the Ombudsman today let see what happens This is such BS

It is not only Ontario, BC is just as bad or worst. I waited over 5 weeks for two. From Dec. to Feb.

Graydog

I made an online purchase from an Ontario retailer, shipping to BC. It was transferred and shipped in 7 days. (Ordered Feb 7, Shipped Feb 14).

The CFO just hates all of you. (Kidding... I have no idea why it might take longer for some people... I didn't do anything special. Just ordered online, sat back, and waited...)

Have you not been reading the rest of the thread? Retail only takes a few days. It's the private sales that take so long.

I started the transfer of a restricted hand gun on Jan 15th the C.F.O said it would be up to 10 days it has now been 3 weeks i called today and they now are saying in Ontario it could be 4 to 6 weeks can any one tell me why

Calm down fellow nutter. Try to keep a positive attitude. Instead of letting the experience of one transaction get your goat, try an averaging scenario.

Buy one per week for 8 to 12 weeks. Chances are you will receive the first one before your buying spree is over. Then your desires will be satiated when the Transfer Notifications start trickling in. There will be days where you buy one, receive papers for another one, and actually go pick a third one up. Cool eh?

That is how I do it. Continued buying seems to bump them all along, a bit like slow dominoes.

Calling and inquiring with the CFO will only make it slower. 3 hierarchies of law enforcement have to check out each transaction separately. They are in 3 different offices in 3 different cities. They get sick, go on vacation, get transferred, have computer trouble, and build up stacks of paperwork on top of your gun buy. Heaven help someone they consider rude on the phone.

No. It depends on the CFO.

I'm trying to understand what difference it makes which CFO is involved and why Retail transfers are completed faster than private.

That said, I had 2 restricted transfers completed (I was a Buyer and Seller) in less than 2 business days last month. I've been advised by the Ontario CFO office that my latest transfer will take 6-8wks. When I started the transfer (last week) the RCMP indicated it should take 5-10 days.
I contacted the Ontario Ombudsman to raise my concern about the discrepancy and will share my findings.

doing a transfer right now, was told 4 weeks. i gave them my rpal and his rpal. should only take a few seconds for them to verify both are valid. i gave them all the gun info which should only take a few seconds to verify. so where does all this extra wasted time come from?
