Why Glocks and 1911's are the best

I strongly agree with both statements.
Glocks are delicious apples and 1911s are delicious oranges.

I also noticed what you did, but do you know why this happens? Some very prominent special forces units with Delta Force on top of the list don't have any problems with their 1911 side guns. For sure they would have if they fine-tuned them in the privacy of their kitchens, basements and garages prior to going to Panama or Somalia.

Glock is the best and the most reliable pistol out of the box and the 1911 is not. But fitted with quality parts and properly tuned the 1911 is the best semi auto gun ever designed. Those guys from Delta Force could choose anything in existence on the Earth and they chose the 1911 in .45ACP. It is not because of "buy American".

If you buy Colt, Kimber ,Para...... name it for $1500 you will have to pay another 500 bucks to get it 100% reliable whether in combat or in action game. Not very many people want to pay this much for a gun and even less are willing to pay for tune-up. They know everything about the 1911 and of course will do it themselfs. As a rule the results are kind of pitiful. I have a path beaten to my door by those who bought Norincos which don't work. Very often they request or even demand to fix and make their prides reliable while they wait and they have only 5 bucks left after the purchase.
The problem is that very few the 1911 buyers realize it. They like them because they are famous and ###y. But they don't know about the fine print.

Delta does not spend weeks in the field. They (and our JTF2) typically deploy from secure positions on ops that are 3 days or less. A tricked out 1911 that can be kept clean on an in-out job may be ok for SOF but for an infantry guy in the sand and dust for weeks on end the Glock would be a better choice as a back-up to a carbine/rifle.

You missed my point.
And do you really think that Delta Force goes only to places which are hospital clean?

1911's are like a beautiful mistress, Glock's are like a faithful wife!

1911's are very needy, and high maintenance and probably get a trip to the plastic surgeon for a boob job (pistol smith for tuning) .

The Glock is good right out of the box.

For the person who shoots regularly, is willing to spend the time and money to make the 1911 reliable, there is no better handgun. For LA SWAT or the FBI Hostage Rescue team, who might have to take a head shot at a bad guy using a hostage as a shield, and shoot hundreds of rounds a week, a 1911 is the most accurate gun available and the best choice.

For an ordinary guy or cop who practices very little and just wants a gun that works, the GLOCK is king. 90% of cops never unholster their gun, on duty, their whole career. Most shoot just enough to pass their qualification tests.

Like a beautiful mistress, no one needs a 1911 but for the aficionado who loves guns and wants the best, nothing beats a high end, well tuned 1911.:)

The author doesn't know what he's talking about. I have a S&W 5906 (DA first pull, SA subsequent pulls) and the trigger reset is shorter than any Glock I've fired (and I own 7 Glocks) and rivals the reset of any 1911 I've shot ( and I own a dozen 1911/2011 type pistols).

The down-side to the 5906 is the derth of quality aftermarket sights.

Plus the fact that the 5806 weighs almost twice empty than a loaded Glock.

For me the 1911 is the king. I have had absolutely no issues with mine, but I don't really shoot it a whole lot to be honest. When I do, it is beautiful.
I'm not a huge fan of Glocks, but I do appreciate them. I did enjoy shooting the 21C model very much. The lack of recoil was simply amazing, and it was very comfortable to shoot.

TDC, out of interest what handguns beside Glock do you own? Do you own a 1911?

Just Glocks. My firearms are tools used to accomplish a task/job/goal. The Glock line does everything I need it to do with no unnecessary "features" or gimmicks attached.

Low bore axis
Minimal parts
Consistent trigger pull from shot to shot
Short reset
Point and pull ability with THREE passive safeties
Magazine cross compatibility between models of like calibre
Tenifer finish
Light weight
Clean lines(no levers or other objects hanging off the sides)
High magazine capacity(in a free country)
square slide(beneficial for non standard methods of cycling the slide and/or shooting the pistol without sights should they be broken)
Integral light rail
Extreme reliability
Affordable
Cheap parts

I only own Glocks, but I've shot nearly everything else including 1911's of many pedigrees. I can shoot them all about the same(with regards to consistent POI). Naturally I have much more time on Glocks so I tend to be a lot faster with them. As I mentioned above, my firearms are tools for a job. I don't strive for extreme one hole groups. I shoot for fist sized groups as fast as possible without missing a shot from all distances and from several positions. I look for reliability, ease of use and longevity. Same goes for accessories or other parts. I only add items that improve performance without affecting reliability, or improve reliability.

I don't collect firearms, I shoot them with the goal of mastering the fundamentals of marksmanship which apply to all firearms equally. Once mastered or even firmly grasped the tool used to demonstrate that ability is a matter of personal choice. Personal choice comes down to what you want or need out of the tool with regards to performance and/or features. As I mentioned in the paragraph above, I select my tools based on three criteria. Reliability, ease of use and longevity. Others may choose their firearms based on movies, the finish(stainless etc), the calibre, the era(wwII guns etc), the brand, or their personal taste in the "look cool factor".
