Why I Choose Remington 700 Actions Over Savage Actions for Custom Builds

The main reason is that I just don't like the the Savage bolt. Furthermore, I've had a buddy who owned some savage rifles and he had problems with their actions.

The Remington 700 bolt has always been reliable and solid. Plus I do like the look of a Remington 700 bolt.
 
Remington made more scrap than savage ....wake up...

I will readily admit that there is absolutely nothing wrong with Savage and, as a matter of fact, out of the box they do have some advantages over the comparable offering from Remington and often come with more features for the dollar. Kind of like buying a Dodge 1500 versus a F150 maybe. Having said that though I also prefer to use Remington for custom builds because in my (highly subjective) view Savages always seem slightly cheap no matter what is done to them. Pure personal preference and others may (and will) take the contrary view.
 
So you prefer a bolt that has been soldered together over a threaded one?

You don't enjoy headspacing a savage over trying to do the same on a rem?

Guess you like that your action starts out as a piece of pipe too then.
 
I like to choose custom actions for custom builds ... Maybe I just like nice things or maybe I see that advantages of getting what you pay for ...

I have both Remington and savages . Both are quality for what you pay, both have pros and cons . But givin the choice ill drop 1500+ on a custom action any time I build a rifle ..
 
Pretty sure the OP meant to say his "semi-custom" builds. Using a factory take off action does not make a "custom" build. Using a custom action like a Stiller, Barnard, Surgeon, BAT etc. makes for a true custom build. At least in my opinion.
 
Must have been a long shift. Poor guy. :) Oh by the way Savage for me. I like the fact "I" can mix and match and put it together instead of depending on someone else far away.
 
Wow, next to no information in this post. Thanks for starting it. For a semi custom, I sure like how easy a Savage action is to work with, ie. changing out the bolt face and the availability of prefit barrels that can be headspaced and installed by most competent home "smiths" and a set of go/no go gauges. The amount of work and money that you need to put into a Rem700 action is total bull***. That's why my rifle is built on a Pierce. Still a Rem clone, but all the money that would have been spent on truing a 700 would have cost me the $925 that the Pierce did once I bought a donor 700. Another plus on a Savage is with all the barrels that an active shooter will go through, rebarrelling costs are reduced.

Have at that one.
 
The main reason is that nobody likes Remington. NOBODY. its Remington. They paint a lot of their bolts black making them SUPER sticky when heated up a bit. Thats why i dont like Remington bolts. the savage bolt ( like on my savage trophy 11 .308) has beautiful jeweling and the action has never FTF once and i have about 1500 down the tube.

Hmmm...that's funny...most of my Remingtons have jewelled bolts that slide like a well lubed prom queen and have never FTF in over 4000 rounds...I can only assume you have not handled many Remingtons...:)

I don't want a Savage because I knew a guy who knew a guy who's little sister had a Savage. I just don't want anybody to walk up to me and say "Nice rifle dude... that's just like the one my buddy's friend's little sister shoots."

I must be missing something here.
A brand new Remington 700 stainless steel action:$400. A used/take off CM could be easily found cheaper by the patient and resourceful.
True action: $150.
Total spent: $550 +tax.

Not anywhere close to the price of a Pierce or any other custom available in Canada. It's actually half the price and proven over many many years to make an accurate rifle.
