why is there no military surplus .303?

this is all fine and dandy. who carries reloader kits and actually has them or is open for the summer?

a press and dies(id get a full length set as well as a neck sizing die for the .303 and do the o ring trick for the first shot) or a lee loader(these neck size so brass should be fired in your gun first and the oring trick should be used) is hat would be needed plenty of people carry them

the 303 is hiding in the same place as all the surplus 30-06

At old Bob's hardware store, on the lower shelf in the second aisle, in paper bags, right next to the 577/450 Martini Henry and the 45/70 Gov surplus.
Set the time machine for 1948 ...

Remington has the 147g mil-spec load. Cheapest I have seen it was $26.99/20. Cabela's might put some on sale. Check their flyers every week.

Remington UMC's .303British has a 174 grain full metal jacket bullet. You just transposed the 7 and the 4 didn't you? I've never heard of a 147grain bullet in a military or sporting .303British cartridge.

I used to buy surplus .303 at $.15 per round but those days are long gone. The .303 hasn't been used much as a military cartridge for about 50 years and there's not much ammo left in armories that could be sold as surplus.

It's a real good excuse to start reloading. Once you're set up with a basic set of reloading gear you can add a new caliber for the cost of dies and components - and the more cartridges you reload the cheaper it gets. And it will shoot better than 60 year old surplus ammo.

Im paying $23 a box for new ammo and once and a while Ill find some for .75 a round at a swap meet or show on an old guys table, I typically buy new now and just toss the brass for the small amount I shoot my .303 now

In around 2001 SIR had 50 rnd mil-surp boxes of 303 for 20$. I shot a lot of it. Long gone now......

don't mind him he is known around here for his :bsFlag:

Hahahaha! I always imagined sunray as a cross between Cliff Claven and the cranky old guy in the rocking chair on the porch of the general store, telling folks about how FMJ will ruin their barrels and why you can't trust scopes. I would fully love to get together with him for a beer one day to experience the ride in person.

Also now I kind of feel like a sh*t heel for shooting up those bandoliers of WW2 vintage RG Mk VII and that were around in the last years of last century. Guess you don't know it's the last of something until it's all gone. Oops.

No wonder Deerdr filled his cart a couple years ago at Wal-Mart when I phoned him from there to tell him they were clearing out all the ammo at 50%-90% off that one day I walked in. He bought almost every centrefire round they had with the exception of 10 boxes of Federal 22-250 for $10/box which I picked up for a fellow CGN'r. The Deerdr bought 303 Remington 180 grn at $10/box that day.
Had I known then I would have cleaned it out myself. Instead I took all the steel shotgun ammo, Federal Classic and Winchester Drylok at $3/box marked down from $16/box for 2 3/4" and $4/box down from $20/box for 3"!! I bought all 160 boxes they had that day!!
Do you remeber that Doc? We had 3 shopping carts full of ammo headed to the checkout counter?! Sure got some looks!!

Yup, should have bought it when it was that price. I have part of a box left that was purchased in the mid late 70's marked $3.00. With the Bank of Canada inflation calculator, that puts it at about $11.30/20 at today's prices.

Very interesting. Much better than .303 today due to low supply, but really just about the same presently as 5.56 or even some 7.62 ball - and MORE expensive than 7.62x39 or 54R

So I guess the old timers are right when they insist ammo hasn't gotten any more expensive. Presuming a reasonable supply of course.

it was all dried up years ago I have a case that was left over from my great grandfather(who I got my lee Enfield from too) I don't shoot it though id say he most likely got it for dirt cheap in the 50's or 60's I say this because had never shot much after the 70's and never had a firearms license of any sort. and trust me you don't want any Pakistani .303 ammo its total garbage. best bet is to cast bullets and reload

...I hope their nuclear warheads work better than their ammo does.....click........poof.....
