Why isn't 10/22 restricted?

How can the 10/22 be a semi-auto rifle yet not be considered a restricted firearm? I thought anything semi-auto was definitely on the restricted list.

There are many firearms that are semi's that are not restricted. The Browning BAR comes to mind, amoung others, besides don't give the Gov't any ideas

Most of the rifles that are restricted were restricted because they 'looked' dangerous and are restricted by name and specific type. Mostly 'assault' type rifles. Others were prohibited.
Others are restricted due to their overall or barrel length.

Just because it's semi-auto does not make a gun restricted. There are hundreds of makes and models of semi auto rifles, in both rimfire and centrefire that can be purchased by the holder of a normal PAL. And shotguns as well.
Even restricted semi's like the Beretta Storm and M1 carbine can become non-restricted with replacement of the short barrel with a longer one.

Its not restricted because the decision makers in various government offices do not think its "EVIL LOOKING".

Just joking but AR15, AK's & the stock only on the Walther G22 are restricted yet the Garrand and the M14 are not. :?: :?: :?:

Just goes to show that those who make the firearms regulations know jack s--t about guns. :(

Rod.

AK and G22 stock are prohibited, not restricted. The only named restricted rifle is the AR15. For a rifle to fall under the restricted clasification, it has to have a barrel under 18.5 inchs and be semi auto centerfire. Rimfire rifles are exempt from the barrel length law, but must maintain 26inchs OAL.....under that they become restricted.

Because they knew that most people have to dump hundreds of dollars into them to make them accurate enogh to hit anything at a decent range.

Actually, the new Swiss Arms "Classic Green CQB" & "Classic Green Carbine" are both classified as RESTRICTED RIFLES in addition to the AR-15 family. But as Hitzy says, I believe the AR-15 is the only rifle specifically mentioned in the legislation, others like the CQB have been shuffled into that classification after the legislation entered into force.

Those SIG's are restricted due to barrel length, same as M1 carbine, VZ58, etc.
AR15 and a High Standard shotgun are the only 2 firearms that are precribed restricted. There are no provisions for the Gov. to prescribe anymore restricted guns under the firearms act. Put an 18.5" barrel on either one of those SIG's and they become non-restricted. AR15 is restricted no matter what barrel length it has, that's the difference.

possibly because when the rules went into effect there were 1 million of them(or similar) floating around(even in PQ and ON) and that would have pissed off a bunch of voters?
