Why Mini-14 So bad

have had a lot of fun with all the mini's i've owned. but some shoot better then others. my old school factory folder shoots great. with weaver 2.5 scope and weaver mount both put on when rifle was new back in the early 80's she will shoot 1.5" and under all day long. all would kill a can @ 100 yards

You want to know why?

simple, you can thank the A-Team for that, hundreds of round fired every Tuesday night for years without anyone getting hit, so it is etched in the back of a whole generation of kid's minds, the Mini-14 is nothing but a noisemaker meant for scarying people

I've compared a 182 series vs the Ranch rifle at the range about a month ago both with same factory ammo.. (2.5'' MOA +- with the Rancher)

I saw a difference of about 1'' better with the newer Ranch one + you can put a scope on quite easily & is bomb proof solid. My guess, I wouldn't go more than 7x even for varminting, it is just not a LR rifle.

I don't own a mini-14, but I would bet heavy cash that most of the bad things you hear or read about them on the Internet is pure BS. I passed on the Mini and went with an AR-15, instead. Well, guess what? I'd also be willing to bet heavy cash that most Mini-14's out there would beat the ass off my AR any time, any day. I mean, I also have a CZ-858 and with open sights it beats my 7x scoped/free floated barrel AR by a significant margin at 100m. If it wasn't for the fact that I have so much money wasted on the AR so far, it would be just ridiculous. Right now it is only painful! Oh, and don't get me started on the trigger, it came with the absolutely worst trigger of ANY firearm I have, except for my very old mannlicher M95.

You have to keep in mind that most of those extolling the virtues of the AR are doing so by comparing fully loaded $2,500+ AR's to beat up old rifles costing much less than half of that amount. If a KAC or a Les Baer AR went for the same price as the mini, I'd say they were REALLY better. But as it is, it's like comparing a F1 race car to a Yugo. Of course they are better, but they also cost many times the price of the Yugo, and here in Canada could be driven only on the race track.

If I had to start all over, I'd go with the Mini-14, save a load of money and be able to shoot it in the bush, not only the damn shooting range. Just my opinion, thought!

First time out with the 580 series stainless laminate target it shot under 1" at 100 yards with 55gr PMC every group until the harmonic damper screws loosened. If you search there are other threads of people who actually own these and shoot them and are satisfied with their accuracy.

Shot well enough that put a little more money into it for adjustable gas block, nylon buffer, heavier main spring and a trigger job.
if so where did you purchese it , getting sick of hitting other people at the range with my shells...
