why Muzzle break a 22LR

Because they can. If we questioned everything everybody does in the world we would never get anything done.

I did it because I could and made them louder, plus loved watching the smoke come out the side.

Why are people putting a muzzle break on a 22lr?

I cannt see the purpose of it

The question really should be why a muzzle device of any sort. And the answer as I see it is two reasons (not necessarily on the same rifle): looks and accuracy. I used an A2 flash hider on my 10/22 mini-SOCOM because it completes the military look of the rest of the rifle, nothing more. Some well designed brakes increase accuracy by stripping the escaping gases away from the base of the bullet as it emerges from the muzzle. There are benchrest shooters that use a brake for this reason. In case anyone is wondering, suppressors also often increase accuracy because they also strip the gases away from the bullet before they can affect the flight away from the muzzle. We just don't get to try this (legally) in our liberal bedwetter dominated country.

Oh yeah, there is no muzzle rise on a .22! ;)

In theory when the projectile leaves the barrel the gases behind it might tip the bullet slightly of course. If this is true who knows.I had a .22 built by Dlask and he said that their XB-5 linear compensator adds 30 moa to accuracy.I bought it and it looks different than a regular compensator. If anything it is a cool looking $50 add-on to my barrel.http://dlaskarms.com/collections/muzzle-brakes

If the bullet is "tipping" when leaving the barrel I would think it was due to a defective crown. Adding 30 moa accuracy ???? Dlask must sell a sh!t load of these. ;)

I have yet to see one of these devices on a winning .22 rim fire target rifle.

For impaling gophers. Notice the finish, easy clean up.

Laugh2 good one!

My buddy always questioned me why I put a VQ comp on my 2245. I then asked him WHY did you buy it from me? Because its cool and loud. *scratches head*

I had a side discharged brake on my 10/22 it was fun watching the lead smoke shoot out the side.

I've put mock suppressor on my sr and I'll admit, it was aesthetics that got me on it.....however, I've actually found the subsonic ammo to cycle more reliably through the gun with the mock installed. FtF/FTE's were up around 8% before and below 3% after. Could be coincidence?

i bought one to test out the accuracy claim. also they looks cool. as long as it doesnt decrease accuracy i will leave it on. i have the dlask xb5 too.

from what i understand the concept, as others have said, is to direct the gas away from the bullet. however, there isnt much gas with a .22LR in the first place. in addition, if you have a good barrel the crown will do that work for you. if you are putting one on a regular threaded barrel with a mediocre crown i have no doubt it would improve accuracy.

as for bench guys using compensators... not that i have really seen. most good bench guns just run the muzzle bare. the great bench guns usually have tuners on them. i have yet to see both a tuner and a muzzle break on a gun. the accuracy improvement of a compensator on a high quality barrel is debatable. the accuracy improvement from a tuner has been proven time and time again. here is a video on one i am thinking of getting.

they have had some great reviews on rimfire forums.
