I've used the search feature and found very little info/discussion of the Springfield Socom 16. Whats the deal? I even used google but very little info and very few decent pics.

Any info or opinions would be great .... thanks

Its also restricted.... A guy that shoots around here owns one, I like the look of it but to much coin for me to justify owning one...

Thanks guys

I was asking because I just picked one up off the EE.

I originally got my RPAL so I could buy a Socom 16. Saw it on the rack at wild west shooting center the first time I fired a gun (2000-2001?). I have owned ~100 guns but never did pick up a Socom 16, until now!

SA Inc. Socoms are over priced marketing things. Restricted too. Market's too small, up here.

i actually loved it until i held one 6 months back at a gunshop , the price and it being restricted doesnt bother me but it was sooo dam heavy it was rediculous !! its because of that cluster rail up at the front that thing makes it soo front heavy go try it for yourself .

Springfield SOCOM II is around $2300.

A Polytech M305S is $550; a Troy forearm is about $450 and you'd have a better rifle.

You're half right. I own a SOCOM 16 (and love it)... and I've shot a number of the Polys. The Polys are cheaper, yes... in every respect. I'm guessing you've never handled a SOCOM or you would have stopped after pointing out the difference in cost.

Can you make a Poly into something comparable to a SOCOM... absolutely... but not with a $450.00 rail arrangement... you would have to spend as much or more as you would have on the SOCOM alone in order to do it right.

The SOCOM 16 is heavy... but you're thinking of the SOCOM II. The SOCOM 16 only has a scout rail fitted.

A little off topic, but is there a sticky that shows people how to post pics and size them correctly? A lot of guys don't know how to do it, including myself. When I sell something I have to use a link to an outside site like photobucket. Sucks when I want to post a pic in a thread. I tried searching but couldn't find anything.

Resize using photobucket. Where it says upload pics and video, pick "more options". Choose 800x600 (that is what I use). You only have to do that once, then upload your pics.
