The Ruger 10/22 is what many semi auto .22s try to go after and the 10/22 is the basis for .22 semis to be measured. Many many companies (AMT, RIA, to name just a few) have copied the Ruger and sold it as their own, why? Because it has a huge following and parts, mods, support, magazines, stocks, everything can be found at all gunstores.
Over the years I have had many 10/22s, and the clones. When I sell one I end buying another, why because I miss the Lego block simplicity of the design.
Anyone can swap out the trigger group, stock, barrel. I built a smaller lighter 10/22 for my teenage daughter with a short factory barrel, 2.5lb tuned trigger, and a adjustable stock to suit her frame. My other config runs a stock barrel, factory stock, and a larger 10-50 larger scope for varmint plugging.
Parts can be moved back and forth. I have had issues with other semi auto .22 magazines, but never Ruger rotary magazines.
Are there better .22s? Sure, but they will never match the 10/22s following and support network. And for the record, I do not remember the last time I even cleaned it completely, and they still function flawlessly!
So get what you want, but head down to a gunstore and shoulder a few. Each to their own really, as everyone has a opinion.

I must say I love the all metal construction of the STG and the warranty, the GSG 15 was my son's second choice.
