Why so few Mosin 91's vs 91/30s?

I remember quite clearly when Trudeau said that he was changing the course of Canadian development. He was asked what kind of country he wanted Canada to be.

His reply was, "Oh, like Russia or China or Cuba. One of those, anyway."

I also remember him saying that the best thing that could happen for the world would be for the white race to cease to exist.

Guess we're nearly all expendable, hunh?

After all, that Great Canadian said so...... and he's the one our schools are touting as the greatest man in Canadian history.

Me, I'm just racist enough to want to continue breathing, no matter what some Waffling Libdipper sociopath might decide upon.

The only people that seem to be whacked out are you guys. I don't seem to recall, nor could find, Trudeau every saying anything like that. Really? Do you really think he said that? Come on.
All I asked for was some advice on Mosins, and to start ranting about our former PM, who is no longer alive to defend himself, just seems to perpetuate the feeling amongst non gun owners that some gun owners are radical, perhaps nuts? And should not be allowed to own a firearm. I have to constantly defend gun owners because of the bad apples out there that give us a bad name.

Keep it clean damn-it. For heaven's sake despite being a Liberal that man brought in the Charter of Rights of Freedoms which is the most beautiful piece of a document this nation has and is obviously not like Russia, China, or Cuba.

Again, all I wanted was a bit of advice on Mosins...why do some people have to ruin an informative positive discussion with radical political views????

I would agree on obstaining from political commentary, but you may want to take a closer look at the charter before you champion it with too much vigor. "Nothwithstanding" was taken to new hights.

There were a lot of reasons that Trudeau and his cohorts were and still are distrusted and hated in Western Canada..... and definitely NOT all of those reasons have to do with the $160,000,000,000 which was illegally and forcibly taxed out of Saskatchewan and (mostly) Alberta and handed to Ontario and Quebec, mostly in the form of fuel subsidies and transfer "payments".

The reason for the continuing East/West divide in feelings has a lot to do with the centralisation of Canada's mass media in Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa. Canada's mass media was and remains overwhelmingly Liberal in political orientation and, in their view, putting out the "news" has very little to do with the truth. Their business is POLITICS and CONTROLLING the news, not in reporting it. The Canadian mass media view anything outside of the Toronto-Ottawa-Montreal corridor as "unCanadian". We out here in the West are seen as quaint #####ers who likely eat with our fingers and who are never satisfied with what our Great Toronto and Montreal Leaders concoct for us in Ottawa. We are to be the hewers of wood and haulers of water for Our Betters and we had damned well better LIKE IT.

Want confirmation? Look at the national media today. Trudeau, who wrote Bill C-83 (which was SO outrageous that even Pearson couldn't get it through) and actually BUILT concentration camps, is lauded as the greatest individual in Canadian history. Harper, who is rolling back some of the more vicious absurdities, getting the incredibly-irresponsible fiscal house in order and actually REDUCING taxes, is hailed as another Hitler.... and ACCUSED of wanting to build concentration camps. Check it out. Look at the savagely moronic comments on Yahoo News; this is the face of Canada today...... the face which has been created by these media monsters who divide us against each other in order that they mght decide who will run the country...... their way.

Yes, I used to be a journalist myself. True. I won 14 journalism awards in a single year, a record which still stands. I nearly TRIPLED the circulation of my newspaper in just 2 years. And I did it on the EAST COAST, simply by addressing real East Coast issues in a logical manner rather than according to the conventional wisdom emanating from Downtown Toronto. Today, I don't buy newspapers, I don't read newspapers, I don't watch television, simply because they are nothing but propaganda which is designed to put the Liberals back in the driver's seat, regardless of truth, reghardless of history, regardless of what further damage they will do to our once-proud country.

I digress.

I apologise.

I will now run away and talk with the Cat. He makes more sense than Ottawa, anyway.

I served too, BTW. My service number starts with "H".

How about yours?

In law, we have had free speech at least since 478 AD. It is a part of the Common Law, which we in Canada got in its present form as a result of the Preamble to the British North America Act of 1867.

If you want a REALLY beautiful document, check out the Canadian Bill of Rights of 1960. Amongst other things, it guarantees equal rights to ALL Canadians, not just the flavour of the week. It's still the law, by the way. That's the one I swore to protect.

I just don't understand how your rights enable you stop me from exercising my rights.

As to our former Prime Minister, rather than getting angry with me, I would suggest that you read his own words in one of the books he wrote.

If CGN wants me off this site, I will comply, happily. They need only notify me.

In the meantime, I shall continue answering queries regarding Ross Rifles, Lee-Enfields, Moisin-Nagants, general pre-1914 firearms and what Mausers I can reply on in an authoritative manner. And I do not need your permission to do so.

I do hope you learned a bit about the history of the Moisin-Nagant.

They are fine rifles.

NOW..... I'm going to talk with the Cat.

Even longer with a bayonet:D

Ya just had to one-up me, didn't you!:D My Mosins bigger than yours. Na na na na.
Have you got one of these short ones with no bayonet?

My take:

The mosins we see have come out of Ukraine for the most part. Ukraine's Mosins were largely those rifles that were in that area during WW2 demobilization.

In WW2, the left over M91's would have been in central Russian away from the fighting with 2nd line troops to free up M91/30's for the Western and Japanese fronts.

In all likelihood there are a goodly number of intact M91's somewhere in Russia, but in general, very few are exported b/c the US market is closed to Russian arms dealers.

VERY intriguing take on things, Claven.

Makes me think that talking with the Baltic States might prove profitable for those seeking original 1891s. They were pretty much a backwater after War Two, sharing no boundaries with the Evil West. They would have been a logical place to build up armouries with old second-line equipment while drafted locals wre stationed many many miles away and their countries occupied by ethnic Russians.

Similarly, there might be some in Moldova and Belarus.

What do you think?

Century Arms in the USA already mined out the M91's in the Balkan States a few years ago. Most were in poor shape and markings had been scrubbed off.

I Know This is an Ancient Post, but . . .

Hello, I know this post is a couple years old but I have a 1904 M91 Cossack rifle. What is the major difference between the Cossack version and the "Standard" M91? And yes, as SVT1940 says, it is REALLY long with the bayonet on it. My Grandfather brought it home after his service in WWII in the Pacific Fleet, he said he traded a Japanese officer's sword to an Australian and he figured he got ripped off. He thought it was a "Russian Remington," but it was not one of the Remington-contracted ones, but from Izhevsk. I've had it for 10 years but never fired it - and won't until I get a gunsmith I know to inspect it.

I would attach pictures, but haven't figured out how yet. Apparently these things are getting harder to come by, which is a pain because it is complete and in not-too-bad shape except for the missing detents on the ramping rear sight (slide is still there but won't lock in elevation). If anyone knows where an authentic rear M91 sight is, I would like to fix it.

So what is the major difference in the Cossack variant?

(and if anyone knows how to post pictures from one's hard drive, let me know and I'll put pics up)

Thanks!
