Why some folks hunt wolves.

in europe our family used charplaninatz sheep dog with collar and lumbars in steel and leather i do think in 10 years they never lost a sheep but wolves did not stay around very long.

but horrible view of what can do wolves very fast.

Know some people in Whitehorse, wolves killed a couple of their sled dogs, chained in their yard. After that, they fenced the kennels. No secret that wolves will kill dogs, coyotes as well and coyotes will kill dogs. It's a dog eat dog world out there. :)

Nature being nature, not bad, not good, just is. If you have pets, don’t leave them outside or exposed in a way that makes them vulnerable.

My wife has a 10 lb. poodle that I won't leave on the leash to take a leak at night, without being supervised.
I'm in town and the chances of a coyote havin' a snack here, are rare, but there.

We get nervous when the ice is good enough for the coyotes but not us. They do their best to entice the puppy to come out and play. Always fully equipped for that possibility (303 British), serious over kill but don't have lighter caliber centerfires.

I have a close friend who lost big a dog to wolves in Fort St James.
They lured the dog out of the yard, and attacked en masse. Dog
dead in munutes, dragged a distance away and devoured. Evidence
in the snow. Dave.

Wow, being a huge dog lover that's a tough vid to watch. I've 3 Tornjaks so the chances of a pack of wolves taking out my dogs are slim, but still gives me pause. Coyotes however, have never even tried for even one of my pups.

Personally I think either a coyote or wolf should be shot on site. No shortage of either but it's to bad the some tree licking saps feel differently. We need to start being able to shoot them again around Algonquin Park as the have become a menace up there as most locals will tell you.

tornjak or charplaninatz (or any sheepdog with still the anti wolves genes) are well known and you do not mess with them. a pack is great idea.

Our hunting camp was surrounded by a pack of wolves. The first to know what was coming was my brothers lab. We just finished dinner was enjoying the night around the fire with drinks. His lab was sleeping on his bed close to the fire when he brought his head up. Within seconds he stood up and went to the door of the trailer. With his tail between his legs he whimpered to get in. We all laughed and figured he had enough and want to go to bed. Within five minutes the area around camp a pack of wolves started howling and they were very close. It was both eerie and awesome, definitely put the hairs on the back of your neck.

It was be interesting what the smell of a wolf to a domestic dog represents, death?

Never heard of a charplaninatz but thanks for sharing (and surprised you know of the Tornjak breed). Very different appearance that our pups, but a LGD that looks like it would put most predators in their place. I refuse to live in the country now without a LGD, even though I don't have livestock atm.

im from that part of the world so the reasons i know them. tornjak is the nicest with humane: the charplaninatz deals with his owner master that it is.

look up for pike collars in kosovo, bosnia and albania and you will see how the wolves are avoiding them lol ...

I have lost a few dogs over the years to wolves, not a pretty sight. My dog will not go off the deck when she detects any wolves around. I will go around and pee on any place that they mark. I have had them $hit on places where I pee. very ballsey wolves. This is in my yard about 50 ft. from the house.I used to hunt/shoot on full moon nights, and before I get flamed about shooting at night,it was legal and safe. I am on private property ( mine ) with no other buildings for a few miles. Put out a gut pile sight in the rifle on the pile and wait.It was very productive and money from the hides would heat my house for the year.
