Why the hate here for xcr's? I'm just getting into black rifles but in just not understanding why the negativity. I want one as they are NR. And DTA rifles are a bit pricey :)

Because the first ones tended to fall apart without the help of Loctite. They've been very good for years, but still have that trace of stink on their rep. I own two that have been perfect for me.

Its the internet man! People hate a lot of things for no good reason!

Personally, having met and spoken with Alex Robinson . . . he concerns me. He has some great and clever people working under him. But when the captain is drunk at the tiller, you have to wonder where the ship is headed.

Oh come on... you can't leave us all hanging. Share the story man! ;)

Lol, its nothing scandalous. He's just a wacky guy:

When I first stepped up to interview him he said to me "Let me explain why my rifle is the best .223 rifle ever made"

I have tape of him saying that! I mean, you can say lots of things about the XCR. That its a remarkable design, that its one of the few small businesses willing to tackle Colt and HK, etc etc. But to say that the XCR is best ever made? I find that to be over the top.

I was told that "the ergonomics are perfect" and that the only reason it wasn't chosen in the US army trials was because of military politics and the big shots at Colt and FN maneuvering behind the scenes.

There's a reason their booth at Shot2012 was small. They got in **** for suitcasing at the 2011 show. I'd call that poor business practices.

Now with all that being said: the XCR is a different rifle from most. And the XCR-M has some remarkable caliber options for a true non-restricted black rifle. If you want one, I don't think it's likely that you will be disappointed with them. But I personally do put some degree of politics into effect when I buy firearms. That's why I love my Tavor.

Yeah, that's just a "bit" over the top. lol. We all know the Tavor is the best .223 ever made. ;)

love the product, not so much the company...but:
Everyone says they have the best product out there, if it is or isn't is left to be decided.
IMHO, if someone who makes the product genuinely believes they have created something genius, that speaks to me more strongly than someone who employs a high priced marketing team. If people know and agree, that's even better.

The XCR is not a ground breaking rifle, it employs solid points, but still at times, remains the answer to a question maybe not everyone was asking. That, coupled with confidence you have the best, results in teh haterz. The barrel retention system looks good on paper and in theory, but really? one bolt? but I love being able to swap barrels with only an allan key.

I don't doubt that there was some political wrangling behind the scenes of the trials, but didn't they also forget to include a black firing adapter?

All that being said; RA has looked after us Canadians. Probably because we represent a large part of his market. but 18.6 inch barrels, resisting the RCMP when they went for our XCR's, stamping .223. That speaks a lot about someone.
my 0.02 as an XCR owner.

Awesome thanks guys! I just noticed a lot of snide comments on other threads about them, and as a potential owner if one next year, I want all the info!

Still want a Kriss, p90, fs2000 and a tavor. Guess i better go win that lottery!

XCR hate

I am using mine to hunt deer this season (6.8spc). Can't do that with a Tavor. I installed a Leupold VX2 2-7x with Trijicon QD mount that I purchased of the EE. I have also installed a MagPul UBR stock, AFG2 grip and an ATRS .308 flash hider. It is a bit heavy, but I am not a whimp. The freezer is all ready to be filled...

Nice! I'm hoping to use mine for hunting too.

And yes I want a SL8. Actually let's face it, I want everything I can't afford :)

I'm using my 762 39 also for deer this year, 2-7 nikon. Nice working setup. Also ended up puting on a AR10 flashhider for the sake of my ears. Definately catches eyes when it comes out.

With a thread title like XCR Hate, you're gonna draw in the haters. Do you have one? If you like it, that's all that matters.

Pretty cool that you had a chance to meet and interview Alex Robinson. But, I don't see how believing in one's product whole heatedly is either over the top or makes a guy wacky. Any good business owner/salesperson should have that attitude, and seeing how his rifle is neither AR nor AK (both awesome platforms, invented long ago by others) he's not outside his rights to want to claim the XCR is the best. I'm not saying it is, or isn't... and not saying he is or is not wacky... but simply pointing out that to break new ground and gain market share in the black rifle world he needs to be convinced his gun is the best and not be shy about selling it as such. What's the alternative? Wouldn't seem right to start a sales pitch or interview by saying "Let me tell you why the XCR is as good as an AR or an AK..." because that would generate the immediate thought response of why the heck would I buy such an uncommon and pricey platform over a far more common one if it's only AS good?

I like my XCR a lot... and I like my AR's a lot. Pro's and cons for both, for sure.
