Why would you want a dust cover mount for a red dot on a Vz-58?

Why would you want a red dot mounted on the dust cover of a Vz-58? Wouldn't you want the red dot as far forward as possible? On my AR, I have it all the way up to the handguards. But i see tons of vzs setup that way. And there are lots of mounts to do it that way. Is this just the most solid mount, or does anyone did it easier to acquire that way?

I just set up a nice red dot and a pair of pop up iron sights on my 9mm AR build. Got them to co-witness perfectly and managed to sight it in perfectly for 50 yds and got started sighting in 100 yds. Still more work to do

Can't co-witness if you put the red dot too far forward

Yes I agree with you. I've tried all the mounts for the vz58. My personal favorite is the NEA. For me personally the only use I see for the rear mounts is for a magnified optic like a vortex spitfire 3x or similar. To get the required eye relief. They are solid and hold zero. I find when I put a red dot too far back that it blocks my peripheral vision too much. Forward mount it seems to "disappear" better with both eyes open. I guess a lot of it boils down to personal preference.

Huh? I've never noticed this before. I put all my red dots out to the handguard on my AR's. Not sure how where the dot was placed on the rail would affect whether or not you can cowitness. Different height risers would affect it. Could you explain for me please. Thanks

Fan of the forward mount. Over the dust cover places it too high for my liking and looks a bit funny to me. A red dot mounted low (no riser) over the handguard makes for a better cheek weld, and better peripheral view for both eyes open shooting with a red dot.

Hi there, is your VZ sporting the discontinued NEA handguard?

Also, any issues with shell ejecting and hitting/landing on your sights?
