I dont know if buy the "bone was not hit" deal.
Does not look like the typical 556 would to be honest. I have seen many ANA shoot each other within close range with M16 rifles. Looks very similar to a ANP officer that was hit by a 7.62x39 at 300M in pretty much same location.

Could be 5.56 but i agree looks more 7.62 even seen some longer range 300 win mag that looked similar in the end to hard to say what actually did it. bullets can do funny stuff.

Actually... it's only excruciating when you try to move or are moved; lying perfectly still is not bad.
I've shattered my femur and it's no joke still have a limp and pain years later.

For anyone with some internet ninja idea that 7.62x39 is inefficient, here is a medical picture of a leg wound.
Note the small entrance wound that looks like it did absolutely nothing. Then look how large the wound inside is and that tub there is dead flesh they had to remove.
So yah, 556 or 762x39...you don't want to get shot with either, anyone telling you gibberish otherwise is full of it.
