If they are Pure Russians they are lot different than feral/crossbred pigs in the states, both in taste and aggressiveness... and anyone who thinks Russian Boars in a game farm or pen are not wild... has never hunted them!
Me and a buddy did some butchering at a local boar farm, and even though they were in pens awaiting to be shoosted, man were they ornery. One male kept charging at the fence until I cancelled his subscription....so to speak.BIGREDD said:
Get the back legs into hams!! Very good! I've shot a few and found that 160 gr. nolsler partitions from my 270 worked very well. Also used a 22 mag and this worked but I had to sneak close and place the shot perfect. I wouldn't recomend this though. Also be wary, a wounded boar will often wait under a tree until your close, then charge. they can be tricky to hunt. Have fun!

I wanted to try wild pig hunting but it was too late for Ontario. So where else is this availabe within Canada?

Wild boar meat is excellent - In my opinion and my wife's opinion better than moose which used to be our favorite. The hams are to die for (get them double smoked) and the pork chops are excellent - better than the usual pig porkchops. The bacon I'm not to fussy for as it seems greasier that ordinary bacon. Sausage is superb. I think Russian boar are a fine game animal to hunt - smart and extremely tough. I think at least a 6.5 X 55 or .303 is required to knock them down so they stay down. Any 30 caliber (.308, 30/06) will work just fine - even better if premium hunting bullets are used.

Oh,how sporting! Sorry DarrylDB,This type of hunting just does'nt fall into my way "ethical hunting".Five rules that I see an ethical hunter should follow:
1. Be safe
2. Be lawful
3. Kill cleanly with one shot
4. Fully utilize the animal harvisted;and
5. Practice fair chase
Others may or may not agree,But then that is why I am very selective with whom I hunt with.

Wow, you sound a little uneducated on the subject. Kinda like a liberal on handguns.
If it were that easy, you wouldnt here so many people who have done it raving about it. Its funny to me how the guys who have never tried it have such a THICK opinion on the subject, but those who have done it praise it . You know what, some people dont have the balls to hunt wild boars on the ground with bows. SO instead, they sit back, and quote the 5 homemade rules of hunting.
Rule #1 counts you out, boarhunting isnt safe, neither is climbing a treestand.

If you think a 70 acre enclosure of thick bush is a "pen", you need to get out and walk 70 acres of thick bush. With a quarry faster than a whitetail, and more likely to attack than a grizzly bear, you often wonder who really has the advantage in your "fair chase" philosophy.
Its a little more personal and gets your heart pounding more than picking whitetails out of a field from 300 yards.

I wish to go hunting for some down buy the river breaks sometime.... A guy at work had one atack his dog wile fishing... he had to use an ax to kill it(the pig). Dog lived though... but realy torn up.
Game Farms have been proven to be a link to CWD ,but you DarrylDB seem to be an expert and by the looks of it have already made up your mind
