Wild West Guns

I just recently purchased a Remington 1100 synthetic from Wild West guns. Before I put my order through I called them to ask a few question to verify any concerns I had, internet description was fair. I confirmed barrel length, color, synthetic or wood, gauge, and if it was new stock. All was answered as yup and new on display.

I made my purchase and awaited it in the mail. When I received my package and hurried home as most would. I open package and thought to myself this seems old. Cardboard was rough and discolored. Upon further inspection there was no owners manual or choke tube wrench. Manual is not a big issue because you can download of the internet. I had this gut feeling that this was not a brand new gun. I called Remington and asked if they could check the serial number and verify the firearm. They told me it was made in 1997. I wouldn't have cared if it was a couple years old but fifteen + years old and that information was not disclosed to the consumer. I have tried to contact Wild West Guns with no luck, they are not replying to my emails, or phone calls. I just wanted to see if any one else had any similar issues with them and I wanted to vent.

Shot gun is in a1 condition, at first sight it thought it was rusty, but it is the oil coating/cosmoline. Well if I lucked out that makes me feel better.

A legitimate vent. I wouldn't be impressed. It may well be "equal" or better than a more recent version..but it will effect resale..telling the next owner that "honestly..I just bought it..its unfired" is likely going to raise an eyebrow at least.

I mean..one could argue the gun is new until someone owns it, or until its fired..but 17 years is a little over the top. Fortunately it has about a 100 year lifespan. It would be interesting to hear the story..how they managed to have a NIB around for so long.

Whether you lucked out on this gun or not..as the consumer you should have the choice, when paying full price for a new gun..of the older or newer. Or a significant rebate on the 1997.

you obviously don't buy/sell much.

That gun is worth MORE to a buyer than a 2014 production.

But hey, since you have it all figured out, I'll take any stinky old (pre 1970) winchesters you got....oh, and those unsafe marlin levers with no crossbolt. Yeah, I'll take those as well.

I would way rather have the one you got, BUT with that said, they need to tell you its "new" OLD stock...............they have recently been accused of selling range guns as new I believe.

I would feel the same way. Whether or not the older production is equal or better, I would prefer that this be disclosed up front so I can make my own decision.

This^^^^^^^^ I think their reputation is starting to get a little bit shady............ I have heard another story from a non-cgn friend a month ago. He ordered a handgun and says there is NO WAY it was brand new. I looked to have at least 500 rounds through it, as the wear to the slide was not possible any other way.

Okay, I know I wasn't being unreasonable by thinkin I should have been informed. I was hopping that they would have responded to me, and this post will pre warn anyone that may purchase a firearm from them in the future. The customer service was great until I tried to get ahold of them.

Would be interesting to see what Wild West has to say about this.

I just recently found an item on their site I was considering purchasing, but will think twice about that now.

Here is there reply I just got

"We will source the choke tube wrench for you. Apologies that you weren't aware of the Shotgun being older stock. Unfortunately there isn't
a big stress on notifying a gun is old, there is no excess wear besides having dust collected. As it being older stock we reduce the price on old stock
to account for the age. Again apologies if this has inconvenienced you in any way."

Unfortunately this isn't the first time this has happend and if I remember correctly - they never responded in their own forum the last time a person had a complaint like this. As you actually got a response - perhaps things are improving.....????

If they come through with what they say, I will inform all that posted.

It is entirely possible that you have a gun that's been in a stores inventory for a while.
There have been a number of stores that have closed down in the last year. Old stock gets a new life elsewhere.

A friend recently posted pictures of a box of OPC6X's old cast bullet company sitting on a shelf at the Gobels in London.
The bullets were produced in 1995 or earlier....

ive heard of this happening before from wild west and I for one would be quite upset if I purchased a firearm thinking it was a current model and receiving one that is 17 years old.

There was a thread maybe a month ago about a guy who bought a sig ?? ( i think )
It had definite wear on the finish. Not sure how he made out though.

Well I'd be freakin stoked!

Take 17 yr old gun, list on EE as "17 yr old pre-Remlin 870 NEW IN FACTORY GREASE!!" For twice the cost of a new one, then buy the super-duper 2014 model and an extra as a gift ;)
