I was thinking of getting an edge for my next build but would look into these as well. I'm juet a bit confused on the pricing. Can someone tell me how much a bdl long action stock standard weight (given at 20oz?) Painted with pillars recoil pad, and sling studs and machined and ready to drop in a barreled action would cost? Do they machine them to drop in or does a Smith have to do this and how much would this add to the price? An edge is ready to bed.
 
They are not a drop in stock and require work to finish including drilling the action screw holes, inletting the stock for the bolt handle as well as bedding the rifle and filling and painting the stock. They are well built and light but require either moderate DIY skills or a gunsmith. Here is their site for more information.

fire him an email, they are great to work with and can give you the finished price etc, unless he stopped doing the extra services. its been a couple years since using one of his stocks on a build but it turned out great.
 
Wildcat stocks are extremely well made. They are lighter, and stiffer than any other brand I've played with in the same weight class. They are not drop in, but they also aren't $800 like a new McMillan. I've used a bunch of wildcats and never had a problem. If you are at all handy with your hands you can finish one yourself, or if not send it out to the stock guy of your choice.
 
The stocks don't have the bolt handle recess cut out so it can be set up for left or right. The first one I did proved much easier than I had thought even though I like working with metal and dislike stock work.
 
One of the best after market stocks available. And for your $ wildcat are second to none, quality of product and workmanship #1.
You must have some knowledge to fit an bed the action, and finish the stock.
The best thing to do is give him a call or email an have a talk about exactly what your after.

I did paint it. Used 3 colors of duracoat. Tried to reproduce the speckle finish I have on one of my McMillan stocks.



I have a few other stocks that need to get painted in the spring when the weather warms up.
 
I've finished a pile of wildcats. They are great for the do it yourselfer and wildcat is awesome to deal with. Like doublegun said the only lighter stocks I've seen have not been on the same quality level.

Hi Rob,

It's factory Remington. I bought just the bare action (w. bolt) from someone and used it to build this rifle.

Originally I had it in a HS Precision take-off stock with factory Rem drop floor plate bottom metal.

Never fed worth a dang. Looked into it a bit more and found it was originally a factory Rem DM setup
so I swapped to this Wildcat stock and inletted for the DM setup.

Seems to feed way better now.

When I installed the barrel on the action, if just never occurred to me to look at the feed rails.
 
Contact Stuart about a left handed stock. He does them for Remington,Ruger, and Winchester but possibly only on a special order.
 
Best stocks on the market if your building a lightweight mountain rifle and the bonus is they are cheap and Stuart is a great guy to deal with.
